Police Tear Gassed APC Protesters.

Police Tear Gassed APC Protesters.
The protesters were detained at Waterlines portion of the road by severe looking police officer with mild teargas fired into the air, thus stopping the protesters from getting to the office of the Independent National Electoral Comission (INEC) about five hundred meters away.
However, the APC in a comment issued Monday, March 30, by its chairman in the state, Dr Davies Ikanya asked for resignation of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dame Gesilia Khan, blaming her for electoral bias.
The statement signed by media aide to the Chairman, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka said the state commission chief should not be allowed to lead the governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Police Tear Gassed APC Protesters.
The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the immediate suspension of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Gesila Khan, for colluding with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rig last weekend’s presidential and National Assembly elections in the State.
For Mrs. Khan to have removed the INEC result sheets in all the polling units in the State with the intention of rigging the polls is a very serious criminal offence. Mrs. Khan should not only be suspended but should not be allowed to conduct the April 11 Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections, as well as the Presidential and National Assembly elections when rescheduled.
“We are very convinced that if our case is thoroughly investigated it will be confirmed that the State REC, Mrs. Khan, compromised her office and tarnished the good image of INEC.”, the party said.
“According to the party, governor Chibuike Amaechi had to demand to see the result sheet on Saturday before submitting himself for accreditation to be sure that the electoral body had not sold the sheets to the PDP.
“The Governor took that step as we were aware that the State REC had traded off the result sheets to PDP to write the results as they deemed fit. Amaechi wanted to prevent a situation whereby people would queue to vote while PDP and INEC would write a different result not reflecting the true voting pattern in the State.” , the APC said.
The party further supposed that soldiers were disposed on Saturday to secure victory for the PDP, continuing that the PDP also supposedly armed youths on the poll day for violence.

Delay In Announcing Means Manipulating Results – APC

The main opposition party the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the postponement in announcing the results of last weekend’s elections in the South-East and the South-South gives room for concern, against the background of the results that are streaming in from other parts of Nigeria.Alhaji Lai Mohammed, party’s national publicity secretary, in a comment issued in Lagos said apart from Rivers and Akwa Ibom, where everyone knows what the situation is, there has been nothing but silence from the others states as far as the results are troubled.
It said many concerned Nigerians have asked the party to show their concern over the shift, and to share their fears on whether something menacing is behind the palpable silence.
”The fact that most of the South-East and the South-South resorted to manual accreditation instead of being patient for the card readers has raised real fears on the possible manipulation of the results. It is common knowledge that manual accreditation makes the voting process more susceptible to rigging and manipulation,” the party said.
The APC clarified as very curious the fact that the card readers mostly worked well in other parts of the country, except in the South-East and the South-South, wondering whether this was a mere accident.
”Also, credible reports emanating from most of the South-East and the South-South indicate that APC agents have either been harassed, intimidated or chased away from results collation centres, the same treatment they (APC agents) have been subjected to in Adamawa and Taraba States.
”Against this background, we are demanding that our agents in all the affected states be given unfettered access to the result collation centres, and that they must also be allowed to scrutinize any result emanating from there for it to be credible,” it said.
The party changed its earlier alarm that no one should avoid the will of the people for whatever reason and that only the authentic results of the elections will be acceptable to Nigerians.
The APC appealed to its concerned members and supporters to be calm and to continue to shun violence, promising that in the end, the will of the good people of Nigeria – which they have freely expressed by turning out in large numbers to exercise their franchise – will prevail.
However, it has already been obtained that APC also won in KanoJigawa and Ondo states, and Jonathan – in Ekiti and Enugu state.
The electoral commission took a break in announcing results up to 8pm.

Jonathan Wins In Bayelsa

President Goodluck Jonathan and candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Saturday Presidential election has won majority votes in Bayelsa, his state.

However, the difference between registered and accredited voters in the state showed that 200,000 persons failed to participate in the electoral process.

The results declared by the state’s Collation Officer and Vice-Chancellor, University of Port – Harcourt, Rivers State, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, showed that Jonathan won in the eight local government areas of the state.

A breakdown of the Presidential results so far released showed that in Kolokuma/Opokuma, PDP scored 20,633 while APC got 402.

In Nembe, PDP, 60,950, APC, 557; Ekeremor, PDP 61,012, APC 374; Yenagoa, PDP 45,439, APC 462.

Also, Jonathan polled 50,754 in Ogbia, his local government area while Buhari was said to have scored only 214 votes.

Statistics revealed that many registered voters in some local government areas did not participate in the elections.

For instance out of the 133,442 registered voters in Yenagoa Local Government Area, only 51,577 showed up for accreditation.

The situations were the same in Kolokuma-Opokuma, Nembe, Ekeremor and Ogbia where 13,785, 29,238, 14,451 and 13,389 persons respectively refused to participate in the exercise.

Results of three remaining local government areas were still being expected.

The results were announced after so much delay attributed to the terrains of the state by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Baritor Kpagih.

Why APC Is Desperate – Gov Imoke

Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross Rivers state has accused the All Progressives Congress of employing desperate tactics in a bid to score cheap political points.
The governor, according to The Nation, made these accusations in reaction to an alleged plot by the APC to embark on a smear campaign against his person.
Imoke in a statement yesterday, March, 29, described the allegations of manipulation of the elections against his person as a plot to discredit the outcome of the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
Speaking through Mr Christian Ita, his chief press secretary, Imoke said: “the latest allegations are the antics of a drowning opposition desperate to stay afloat by hanging on straws. This is falsehood taken to the level of absurdity.
“They should also stop fanning the embers of violence through false claims and hate campaigns. Election is about the people and it is won on the ground and not on facebook or bulk sms,” the statement further stated.
The PDP has come under intense scrutiny by members of the opposition who have persistently accused the party of plotting to rig the on-going general elections
A report by Premium times yesterday alleged that the party had perfected plans to rig the polls in favour of Presient Jonathan and other PDP candidates.

Police Recover N9m From Dead Robbers who Raided Owo Banks

Ondo state police have recovered N9m from six of the fifty armed robbers who raided four banks in Owo last week.
Police Recover N9m From Dead Robbers who Raided Owo Banks
A scene from one of the banks in Owo after the robbery operation
The robbery attack killed two police women and four others, including an ASP, and seven civilians killed by the robbers. The robbers were said to have stormed the banks at about 4pm last Friday. Also shot dead by the robbers were a bank manager and his deputy who reportedly refused to cooperate with them on arrival at the bank.
It was later revealed that the robbers were on a tip-off of a huge amount of cash deposited in the banks, in view of last Saturday’s elections. The six robbers were shot dead by policemen who engaged them in a shoot out that lasted for two hours. The two women police officers and the ASP were shot dead at the police station on arrival by the robbers who destroyed the station with gunshots.
Vanguard reports that some vehicles, including that of the DPO of the station, were stolen but recovered hours later after by the police. Twenty-three assorted fire arms, including 9000 rounds of ammunition, 11 dynamites, 100 magazines, ten smoke hand grenades, three steel helmets, police berets and uniforms and nine exotic vehicles, were recovered from the robbers.
Confirming the incident, the Police Commissioner, Isaac Eke, said the command received information that armed men numbering over fifty in several vehicles, wielding sophisticated weapons, had slipped into the state. Eke said the robbers took over the police stations and four banks. According to him, a formidable reinforcement, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police from Akure, the state capital, in charge of operations was dispatched .
“After intense and protracted exchange of fire with the robbers, one of them was arrested alive, while six others lost their lives from gun shot wounds,” he said.
The police commissioner said one Sony video camera with which the robbers recorded their dastardly act was equally recovered. Eke vowed to arrest those that “managed to escape with bullet wounds towards the boundary of Ondo with Edo/Kogi states.”
