The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to stand against any attempt by Ekiti House of Assembly to impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Chief Olisa Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP
According to Blueprint, Olisa Metuh, national publicity secretary of the party made this known yesterday April 7, in Abuja where he described the move by the Ekiti state legislators  to impeach Governor Fayose as reckless.
The party said: “The PDP totally and unequivocally rejects the flimsy and unsubstantiated allegations concocted by the APC legislators against Governor Fayose. We state in very clear terms that we will stand with him and bear our full weight in defence of the mandate freely given to him by the people of Ekiti state.
“We invite all lovers of democracy and the international community to note the antics of APC and the deliberate plot to destabilize the polity even when it is yet to assume power.
The PDP  also alleged that the APC is plotting to institute a one party system in Nigeria.
Olisa Metuh  said that rather than focus on the myriads of problems bedeviling Nigeria, the APC was scheming on how to stifle opposition and impose a one-party system and complete totalitarian rule in Nigeria.

DSTV Subscription: Court Stops Dstv From Increasing Fees

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered Multi Choice Nigeria Limited, operator of the Digital Satellite Television, popularly known as DStv, to hold action on its planned subscription fee increment.

Justice C.J. Aneke, who made the interim order last week, held that it would subsist till the determination of a lawsuit contesting the legality of DStv’s newly introduced rates and increase in tariffs payable by all its subscribers in the country.

Two legal practitioners in Lagos, Osasuyi Adebayo and Oluyinka Oyeniji, had approached the court challenging what they described as arbitrary increment in DStv subscription rates imposed on its customers.

The action, they said, followed an announcement by Multi Choice in March that it was increasing DStv subscription fees by 20 per cent on all viewing plans effective from April 1, 2015.

The company had reportedly explained that the price increase was necessary for it to be able to continue to offer the best in local and international entertainment to its subscribers.

But the plaintiffs, who considered the move as illegal, filed the suit marked FHC/L/CS/404/2015, joining Multi Choice Nigeria Limited and the National Broadcasting Commission as the first and second defendants respectively.

The plaintiffs, who sued for themselves and on behalf of all DStv subscribers across the country, had asked for an order, compelling NBC to enforce the pay-per-view scheme, whereby subscribers would only pay for programmes watched, as was being done in other parts of the world.

They also asked for an order of the court restraining any other individual or corporate entitity from filing any other action on the subject matter to avoid multiplicity of the lawsuit.

Aneke, having granted the interim injunction as prayed by the plaintiffs, directed that the order be made public through newspapers publications.

The judge adjourned the case till April 16, 2015.

Aneke held, “That an order of interim injunction is hereby granted to the parties to maintain the status quo restraining the 1st defendant (Multichoice/DStv) from giving effect or enforcing its planned increase in cost of the different classes of viewing or programmes bouquet, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

“That an order is hereby granted certifying the plaintiffs’ claim as a class action for themselves as individual subscribers, other corporate subscribers, distributors and retailers of the 1st defendants’ services.

“That an order is hereby granted restraining any other person whether individual or corporate from instituting any other action as may be related to the action against the defendant to prevent multiplicity of lawsuits pursuant to the appointment of the plaintiffs in the class action but may instead opt in or out of this action.”

Veteran Actor, Baba Wande Talks About Buhari And GEJ

Nollywood actor, Alhaji Kareem Adepoju popularly known as baba Wande is no doubt a prominent player in the Nigerian Yoruba Movie Industry.
Veteran Actor, Baba Wande Talks About Buhari And GEJ
Baba Wande
The ‘Ti Oluwa Nile’ star spoke with PlagroundTv about the last presidential election, the president-elect and president Goodluck Jonathan. Here are excerpts from the interview below:
What does the presidential election tell you about the future of Nigerian politics?
I have been voting in Nigeria for years, but I had never seen any that matched the last presidential election. The whole thing just came and went peacefully, at least to a great extent. Many people were expecting crises, but there was none. We give glory to God for allowing peace to reign in the country. If we continue our elections like this, it means the future of Nigerian politics is bright as it will cease to be a do-or-die affair.
Were you able to vote?
Yes, I did. I voted at a polling unit in Owode, Osogbo – close to where I live. I couldn’t have disenfranchised myself by not performing my civic responsibility.
What advice do you have for the President-elect?
As we all know that General Muhammadu Buhari is a man of integrity and has discipline, he should get to work immediately and apply his experience to change the situation of things in Nigeria. All those that he promised he would do for us, he should deliver them without wasting time. And he should also select people that will help him achieve his goals and desires for the country. Also, he should continue being a man of integrity as we believe he will not disappoint us. I pray God will guide him to lead us well.
President Goodluck Jonathan is known to have shown support for the film industry in Nigeria. What do you expect from General Buhari?
Even though I have not seen any money they said President Jonathan gave us, yet Maj. General Buhari too should continue to support the film industry so that we can soar to greater heights. If you look at it very well, Nollywood is one of the most patronised in the world and it has generated lots of employment opportunities for many people. Buhari should also lend his support to us and grow it further than where President Jonathan is stopping.
What counsel do you have for the new opposition – the Peoples Democratic Party?
President Jonathan has set a good example for them to follow. I like the way he just let it go without sponsoring some people to foment trouble. It shows how great a man he is and I respect him for that. Many were thinking prior to the election that if either of the major presidential candidates lost, there would be trouble and Nigeria would boil. But see how President Jonathan just doused the tension. Even those who would have taken up arms to defend him were surprised. So, now that the President has shown he is a peaceful man, the PDP too should allow peace to reign. It’s by peace that Nigeria can achieve its potential. Whatever part they want to play in this new dispensation, let them play it peacefully.
There’s no governorship election in Osun State this Saturday, so are you still going to vote?
The State of House Assembly election is equally important and not to be overlooked. Therefore, as a good Nigerian, I will vote again. I implore every other Nigerian to do that peacefully when Saturday comes.
The 2015 presidential campaign had involvement of stars on both of the side, the APC and the PDP. However, President Jonathan had much more celebrities involved in campaigning for him. We may recall such VIP events as#MeetThePresident event in Lagos, or, for example Show Biz interactive with Jonathan, also in Lagos.

67 Percent Of Nigerians Have No Power Supply

An average of 62.6 percent of Nigerian households saw no improvement in power supply to their households between 2013 and 2015 despite privatization exercise carried out in the sector a power poll by NOI Polls Limited has revealed.
The polls which covered the first quarter of 2015 revealed that only 37.4 percent households surveyed said they saw some improvement.
These findings which was published by Daily Independent shows that the inherent issues in the nation’s power generation, transmission and distribution value chain have not improved.
This is coming after Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), said Nigeria was now generating 4,349.7 megawatts, achieved as a result of improved gas supply and the commissioned generating units at the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) thermal power stations in Omotosho and Olorunsogo.
The power sector in Nigeria has been beset with numerous challenges manifesting in poor power supply to the final consumer. Since the privatization of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria Plc (PHCN) in 2013, Nigeria’s electricity generation capacity has declined from the peak generation of about 4,517.6 megawatts (MW) in December 2012 to about 3,670 MW in January 2014. This occurred in a period when the forecast for electricity generation was placed at 12,800MW.
NOI Polls result implies that for a period of two years of monitoring trends in the power sector, there has been no remarkable improvement in power supply, as the larger proportion of Nigerians did not see any improvement in power supply to their households.
In line with the findings, the South West zone recorded the worst power supply of 67 percent in the past 27 months when compared with other geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The South East zone recorded the highest average improvement 42 percent in power supply in the same 27 month period.
More findings revealed that over the same period, Nigerian households received an average daily cumulative power supply of between 5.4 – 7.1 hours per day.
Consequently, an average of 77.5 percent of Nigerians relied on the purchase and use of alternative sources of power, such as generators, inverters, and solar installations etc, which are typically more expensive to run than direct power supply from distribution companies (DISCOs).
Meanwhile the Ibadan distribution company has explained why millions of Nigerians are experiencing low power supply in the country in spite of the huge amount of money the Federal Government has spent to improve electricity supply.

According to PM news, the organization listed several sins against Abba including human rights abuse and corruption while saying the entire security system has been politicized.
At a press conference held in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, and led by its National Co-ordinator, Nwanguma Okechukwu, the civil society group championing reforms for the police, also asked Nigeria’s President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure that he reconciled all committee reports for the reform of the police and other security agencies in the country.
“All service chiefs, the Director of SSS, the Inspector-General of Police and all heads of similarly compromised security services as well as senior officers who have been politically exposed should be retired compulsorily to restore integrity and professionalism in our security services.
“They clearly showed their loyalty is, not to the law, not to the Nigerian people, through their elected representatives but solely to the executive and the ruling party,” the organization said.
Among other things, the organization urged Buhari to also support a reform to stipulate leadership qualifications and “entrench competence, integrity and effectiveness, ensure operational autonomy and insulate the police leadership from political control.”
The group further re-presented a report on Police Reform in Nigeria, which it said it first presented to President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012 but which had not been considered to date.

Meanwhile, Mr. Suleiman Abba has warned police escort attached to politiciansnot to follow them to polling centers on Election Day.

Ogun PDP Are Just Desperate - APC Blasts PDP

Ogun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called out the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recent allegations that incumbent governor, Ibikunle Amosun has planned to rig this weekend’s gubernatorial and House of Assembly election, as a product of frustration.
The PDP gubernatorial candidate, Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka had accused Governor Amosun of buying all unclaimed Permanent Voters Card PVC’s in the state to boost his campaign.

In response, the APC released a statement through it’s State Publicity Secretary, Sola Lawal and denied organizing such plot.
The APC said: “the ruling party in the state need not rig an election in which all the odds are in its favour, due to the popularity of its main candidate, Amosun”.
The party said that they were confident of winning Saturday’s polls in the state due to the heavy victory they recorded in the state during last Presidential and National Assembly elections in which the party won seven out of nine House of Representatives position available, including Egbado North/Imeko Afon Federal Constituency, where Isiaka hails from.
It stated that the same winning streak would be re-enacted this Saturday,“regardless of idle hoax scream by PDP”.
“By now, the nation has grown accustomed to blackmail of the APC and the electoral body by PDP, which, prior to the presidential election, crudely painted the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, a criminal.
“In the same way the Jega-bashing did not prevent the PDP from the electoral humiliation it suffered in the presidential election, this latest scrabbling of Ogun PDP would lead to their demise at the polls,” the statement said.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun has been one of the most influential APC members in the country and is crucial to the party as he success in the nation.

IGP, Suleiman Abba
He said any policeman found in company with politicians at polling units, apart from those assigned to ensure security there, would be arrested.
Abba’s warning was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said, “Only Police personnel specifically assigned for election duties must be seen within and around the election designated places.
“No armed Police escort must be seen escorting politicians to the Polling units.
“Such (erring) policemen would be arrested and made to face stern disciplinary action.”
He commended Police personnel and other law enforcement agencies that participated in the policing of the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections for their unparalleled professionalism during the exercise.
The IGP noted that their virtues of selflessness and dedication to duty contributed in no small measure to the overall success of the widely acclaimed free and fair election.
He also commended the high level of comportment, discipline, orderliness, patience and understanding exhibited by the citizens throughout the period of the elections.
Abba specifically commended Nigerians for the huge assistance they extended to the police and other law enforcement agencies which made the election hitch-free.
The IGP, however, called for a similar level of citizens’ cooperation and support for the police and other relevant agencies in the forthcoming Governorship and House of Assembly elections on Saturday.
He urged all citizens to remain calm, confident, hopeful and trust in the ability of the police and other relevant agencies to discharge their constitutional mandate of ensuring the safety of lives and property during the exercise.
He pledged that the police would continue to protect the democratic rights and freedoms of the citizens.
He also reiterated the preparedness of the force to consolidate and re-enact the last election security success story in other future elections.
Meanwhile, IGP Suleiman Abba has praised the Police and other security agencies for the work during the just concluded Presidential elections.

Young Man Wearing Earphones Crushed By Train In Lagos

A young man wearing earphone was on April 8, Wednesday, run over to death by a train in Cappa area, Oshodi, Lagos.
The victim, whose personality is yet to be identified, was standing on the rail track, when the train was approaching, Vanguard reports.
The man did not hear the sound of the train horn as the vehicle was coming closer.
An eyewitness alleged that the deceased was either listening to music or receiving a call at the moment of the tragedy.
“Obviously the man was not aware of the approaching train even as it blasted its horn, perhaps because of the earphone. Before he knew it, he was already hit by the train and was not given any chance to escape.
“Immediately he was hit, the body was mangled as the train dragged it underneath. People standing by the rail track that saw the incident raised their hands over their heads in a show of pity for the deceased.
“The man has suddenly and unwittingly lost his life to sheer carelessness.”
Similar incidents, when people were crushed to death because of having their earphones on, occurred in Lagos state in 2006 and 2007.

OPC Leaders Accuse Gani Adams Of Incompetence

National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), Gani Adams has been accused of making Jonathan lose the presidential elections and queried by the National Coordinating Council of the organisation to explain what happened to the N1.6 billion campaign fund he allegedly collected from President Goodluck Jonathan and the six million votes he promised the president.
OPC Leaders Accuse Gani Adams Of Incompetence
OPC Leader, Gani Adams
In a press statement in Ibadan, spokesman of the Council, Comrade Adesina Akinpelu said, “one of the factors that contributed to President Jonathan’s defeat in the South-west was his romance with characters like Gani Adams.”
Akinpelu according to the Daily Trust described his purported suspension from the congress over allegation of working for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as laughable, insisting that he remained an active member of OPC at both the state and national level.
He maintained that as one of the founding fathers of OPC, he had contributed in many ways to the “liberation of Yoruba people from oppressors, and it was based on this principle that myself and some conscious members of the congress  decided to challenge Adams’ decision to sacrifice Yorubas for pecuniary gains”.
While accusing Gani Adams of turning the OPC into his personal fiefdom and sowing the seed of disunity among members, Akinpelu said the National Coordinating Council of OPC will liberate the congress from Adams and will not allow him to start another war within the congress.
“It is on record that Gani Adams collected N1.6billion from President Goodluck Jonathan to work for him to be re-elected. We are not in any way against President Jonathan, but what we are against is mortgaging the future of Yorubas”, he said.
Akinpelu, expressed surprise over the description of Buhari’s victory in the March 28 presidential election as the will of God.
Akinpelu said;  “Like a man who seems not to have any decency left in him; he made a fast u-turn on Buhari, the man he once detested. Now in the world of Gani Adams, Buhari has become another god to be worshiped for pecuniary gains. He described Buhari as Nigeria’s Abraham Lincoln.
“In as much as we are not against anybody or group from congratulating the new president-elect; we are only using this medium to further showcase the real Gani Adams as an opportunist using OPC  for selfish purposes. Here is a man who for selfish purpose danced naked in the market square when he staged a macabre protest calling for the removal of Professor Attahiru Jega as the chairman of INEC.
“Today, that same Jega that Gani Adams called many names is now the man of the moment. The entire world is celebrating Jega for ensuring credible election in Nigeria. In decent societies, the likes of Gani Adams and his cohorts would have buried their faces in shame but because they are second-class citizens with inferior scholarships; they still think Yoruba people are fools whose collective intelligence can be toyed with”.
In an indirect jibe at Gani Adams, Governor of Kano state, Rabiu Kwankwaso said Jonathan lost the elections because he was involved with anyone he met at airports and at the motor park.

It Was Not Easy For Jonathan To Call Buhari After Polls

Apart from congratulating Muhammadu Buhari on the victory in the presidential election, the world has been praising President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat.
Jonathan’s gesture, which allowed to prevent post-election violence, was highly appreciated both on the national and international level.
But has it been that easy for the country leader to take this decision?
Premium Times has exclusively obtained from its sources how GEJ had arrived to the historic decision to make a congratulatory telephone call to Buhari.
Based on the report, there was a serious drama on March 31 at the presidential villa as Jonathan was being torn apart by two sides: some persuaded him into conceding the defeat, while the others said that the Peoples Democratic Party should challenge Buhari’s victory.
The representatives of the second “camp” warned the president against taking a “hasty decision”.

“At a point the president became confused and it was clear the forces opposed to the president’s decision to concede victory was gaining control. As some of them were talking to the president in the villa, others who were far away were calling the president on telephone. The president was in a dilemma.”
One of the presidential aides, who pleaded for anonymity, disclosed that President Jonathan had even invited Osita Chidoka, the Minister of Aviation, for consultations. Chidoka actively supported the decision to concede the defeat.
The minister allegedly said:
“Mr. President, I can tell you that by congratulating Buhari, you would have done the unthinkable and history will surely be kind to you.”
Mohammed Adoke, the Minister of Justice, shared a similar point of view:
“He quickly joined Osita (the aviation minister) in appealing to the President to ignore those advising him not to concede defeat. In fact, I saw Adoke and Osita kneeling before the president in deference and begging him to take the right decision in the interest of the country.”
With such a development, Jonathan seemed to have been 100% convinced that conceding the defeat would be the right step.
When more calls against the move started to appear, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of Finance, arrived and also spoke in favour of concession.
Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, the Special Assistant to the President on Domestic Matters, was among those who stressed the importance for GEJ to call Buhari.
He reportedly knelt before the president saying:
“You need to congratulate Buhari now sir. I think you should leave this place on May 29 holding your head high.”
Finally, at about 5.15pm Jonathan made a call which would be later tagged as “historic”.
Already at 5.27pm Chidoka tweeted:
“President Jonathan congratulates Gen. Buhari in a phone call this evening.”
“President Jonathan will address the nation after a meeting with PDP officials.
“President Jonathan is a democrat by instinct, he has expanded the civic space and entrenched genuine democracy. A great future awaits him as sets a continental example on the essence of democracy.
“President Jonathan, by refusing to be an African Big Man, has indeed become an African role model. Soon when emotions subside, the story of Pres. Jonathan’s stubborn commitment to democracy and peace will be told.”
First when the reports broke, many could not believe that Jonathan really called Buhari, which the president did even before the INEC announced the final results. However, soon, the information was confirmed by the president-elect. The photos of him talking with his major competitor appeared on Buhari’s official page.
Luckily, the fears that the presidential election result might plunge Nigeria into violence did not become reality. Now the country is getting ready for another set of the polls scheduled for April 11. The officials urge people to emulate their March 28 peaceful behaviour at the upcoming polls.
