Harry Redknapp: People were against me at QPR

Harry Redknapp has told BBC Sport that he resigned suddenly as manager of QPR in February because he "no longer knew who was on my side" at Loftus Road.
Redknapp cited crippling knee problems as the primary reasons for his decision to leave Rangers, who were second from bottom in the Premier League table.
But he has now revealed that was not the only issue.
In an interview with Football Focus, the 68-year-old said the club had descended into a "soap opera".
"I always thought I had everyone pulling with me and suddenly I felt some were and some weren't. Behind the scenes, I always thought there were one or two people with their own agendas," he said.
In a wide-ranging interview at his home in Poole, Redknapp says:
  • He thought he was a certainty for the England job
  • England are good enough to win Euro 2016
  • Harry Kane is in the perfect place to develop
  • The pain and responsibility of losing was huge
Redknapp is undergoing rehabilitation on his knees and can now walk and stand without pain but the former Tottenham and Portsmouth manager admitted to being "worn down" by incessant rumours around his position as manager at Loftus Road.
He said: "There was talk about Tim Sherwood coming in. QPR was in the paper every day. I've been at lots of other clubs, big clubs as well where you didn't get that.
"That got on my nerves. That was the big problem for me," he added. "As soon as we lost a few games it would begin. I always thought there was someone mischievous causing it. I'd never had that before at any club I'd been at.
"All the years I have managed, seven years at West Ham, 10 years nearly at Bournemouth, Tottenham for four years. No-one ever said I was going to get the sack by Sunday.
"The chairman Tony Fernandes always said there was never anything in it and it was always denied, but I thought it was always very disrespectful.
"I didn't see the teams below us getting the same sort of headlines every other week. It wore me down a little bit."
Academy coach Chris Ramsey took over as boss until the end of the season in February and the Hoops are now two points off safety in the table.

I would have hated England's 'office job'

Redknapp was overlooked for the England manager's job when Fabio Capello quit in February 2012. Roy Hodgson was then appointed boss in May that year.
"I thought it was a certainty in all honesty. I'd be a liar if I sat here and said anything else. Even Roy thought I was a certainty. All the word coming back from the League Managers' Association and everybody else was that 'Roy knows you're going to get the job, there's only you and Roy'.
"I was 10-1, Roy was 8-1, but it didn't happen and that's life and I didn't lose any sleep over it.
"I think maybe Roy was more suited to the job than I was. Maybe he was more suited in going to St George's Park and spending more time with the FA.
"I always think he is perhaps more organised than me in that respect. He's a top-class manager without a doubt.
"I thought he would spend more time in the office than I would, I'd have hated that. Going up to Soho or wherever the offices are, going to St George's Park wasn't for me. I could have managed England but I couldn't sit in an office and say I'd win a tournament."

'England can win Euro 2016'

Roy Hodgson
Roy Hodgson is set to manage England at a third tournament next summer
"I like Roy. He's a good man, a good manager, with fantastic young players. We've got to produce in that tournament so let's go and win the Euros, why can't we?
"We've got players better than most of the other nations, the Dutch, the Italians, French although Germany are a big threat."

Harry on Harry - 'Kane's no Billy big time'

Harry Kane
Harry Kane was a Tottenham youngster when Harry Redknapp was first-team boss
"He has stepped up this year to a different level. He's well managed. I like the manager at Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino, he's a good manager and a lovely guy. He's well looked after and in good hands.
"He's not a kid who's going to get carried away. He's not a Billy big time. He'll get on with it, he'll keep practicing, keep working at his game and keep improving. He's level headed and is the type of kid you love to see be successful."

Deadline day - 'I didn't drive the chairman mad'

Redknapp insisted he had not fallen out with chairman Tony Fernandes because of the club's lack of business in the January transfer window.
QPR missed out on the signing of Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor on deadline day and Redknapp claimed it was himself who pulled out of the deal.
"I was trying to sign him but it all got too expensive. I said to Tony, don't in the end, 'it's too expensive, let's forget about it and move on'. It wasn't going to work out so we didn't really chase anybody.
"I didn't drive Tony mad to make a signing. He was trying harder than I was in the end. I just thought we needed another striker."

The pain of losing

Harry Redknapp
Jose Mourinho called Redknapp "a real friend" when Real Madrid faced Tottenham in 2011
"I didn't want to go outside. I just didn't want to be with anybody, I just really wanted to shut myself off. It's a silly feeling.
"I know it's only a football match but you feel responsible. It's different when you're a player - you play, you get down after a bit but you're one of the team. As manager you feel responsible for all the fans going to work, their weekend, their team losing. It's all on your shoulders. It's difficult at times."

Okonjo-iweala Listed Among 50 Greatest World Leaders

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been named one of the 50 greatest leaders in the world by globally-acclaimed Fortune Magazine.

Occupying the 33rd spot on the list, the minister was recognised alongside the Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf; Catholic Pontiac, Pope Francis; Chinese President Xi Jinping; Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi; Bill and Melinda Gates as well as Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerburg and Apple Chief Executive Officer, Tom Cook.

In the latest edition of the magazine, the minister was described as “a fearless promoter of sound economic policies”, and was also singled out for working hard to usher in a decade in which Nigeria’s GDP trippled.

Fortune Magazine’s annual list celebrates men and women who are transforming lives in all spheres, including government, business and philanthropy.

In compiling the 2015 list, the magazine explained that it gathered advice from more than 24 of the world’s best minds. The leaders were judged by their actions within their professional domain, industries or governance.

“To make this roster, it was not enough to be brilliant, admirable or even supremely powerful. We set out to find singular leaders with vision who moved others to act as well, and who brought their followers with them on a shared quest.

“We looked for effectiveness and commitment and for the courage to pioneer,” the magazine said.

Okonjo-Iweala graduated from Harvard in 1976 and holds a Ph.D in Development Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – 1981.

As two-time Finance Minister of Nigeria, she has helped to lay a solid foundation for the Nigerian economy, which is currently the biggest in Africa at $510 billion.

Igbos Should Not Portray Themselves As Ungrateful People - Okorocha

The Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has warned Igbos in Lagos to vote massively for the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday because the party has the power to make life unbearable for Igbos in the state.
Igbos Should Not Portray Themselves As Ungrateful People - Okorocha
Okorocha while addressing newsmen Imo state capital, Owerri said “Igbos should not portray themselves as ungrateful people, the only way they can show appreciation is by massively voting for APC the party that has protected their lives and properties over these years.
“The Lagos state government led by APC has the capacity to make life unbearable for all Igbo traders and resident in Lagos if they so wish. So you see, the Oba was figurative in his speech not necessarily that Igbos will be drowned in Lagoons.”
Meanwhile President Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has urged Igbos in Lagos to forgive Oba Rilwan Akiolu and move on.
He said, “There is no doubt that Lagos is a mini-Nigeria. We are all here and it has been mentioned by previous speakers that everybody (tribe) is adequately represented in Lagos.
“So, I assure you. If you vote for the continuity of APC in Lagos, you stand to gain more. It is in your interest that you vote for the APC.”
The Imo state governor recently blamed the Igbo leaders for their myopic thinking which has now denied the region the chance to produce either the Senate president or the Speaker of the House of Representatives in June.
The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu has been under fire since Monday when he reportedly threatened the Ndigbo in Lagos to either vote for the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, or perish in the lagoon.

Civil Servants Battle Mimiko Over Salary

Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko plans to use workers’ salary to prosecute Saturday’s House of Assembly election in the state.
The governor has been distributing money to politicians in the state since last week, in a desperate bid to control the majority in the state House of Assembly.
Despite the humongous N1.6 billion he collected to prosecute the campaign for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, as the South-West coordinator of the Jonathan/ Sambo ticket, Mimiko has borrowed about N500 million from the Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, OSOPADEC, in addition to civil servants’ salary, as resources to be committed to prosecute the April 11 election.
The governor, who had earlier threatened the state civil servants that if he loses control of the state House of Assembly, he will be left with no other option than to use their salary to bribe the Assembly to have his way, has been begging the civil servants not to finally disgrace him in Saturday’s poll, saying that he knew he has been partly disgraced with the outcome of the presidential election in the state.
National Mirror learnt that the governor has been having marathon meetings with the state civil servants and their leaders, where he has softened his hard stance posture and resorted to begging the civil servants to save him from imminent defeat.
He told them that the Ekiti State scenario will play out in Ondo State if the opposition takes control of the state House of Assembly in Saturday’s poll

APC Plans To Approve Buhari’s Ministerial List

The chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will ratify the list of people to be nominated into the Federal Executive Council before presentation to the National Assembly.
The leadership of the party were seeking to restore the APC power which some supposed was lost during the 16 years under the ruling of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A significant northern leader of the APC, who wanted not to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue, said the APC was working to avoid the difficulties which led to the downfall of the PDP.
The politician said: “We are looking at a situation where the party will direct the affairs of government in line with our manifesto. Recall that this was largely the case during the second republic.
But since 1999, what we have seen is the rise of individuals whose personal interests took precedence over the general interest of the party and the people.
The APC cannot afford to let this happen because we have a social contract with the Nigerian people who voted for the party based on the promise to bring about change in the polity.”
He added that under the APC government, there is no way the First Lady would have the freedom to interfere in the party affairs to the level of dictating who got nominated and who did not.
The politician said: “This time around, the party will make an input into how its elected public office holders conduct the business of delivering on promises made, because we, as a party, will share in their success and will also share in the blame, should they fail.”
Ogbonnaya Onu, a leading member of the APC and former governor of old Abia state, has recently told journalists that as a party, the APC would be guided by the constitution.
While answering a question as to how members of the cabinet would emerge, Onu said the APC was a party which was determined to do things differently to enable Nigerians to get value from administration.
Onu said: “In forming government, you have to make consultations with the party. We are a party of change, we are a party that is looking forward to building a Nigeria that many of the problems we have today will be solved, and we can’t do things the way they were done before; knowing that the way they were done before didn’t give the results that were desired.”
The information emerged recently that the former president Olusegun Obasanjo and the national leader of the APC Bola Tinubu disagreed over the candidature for the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
According to the agreement with the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, the former Lagos governor will name nine ministers.

Edwin Clark Attacks Oba Akiolu Over Threats To Igbos

Chief Edwin Clark has lambasted the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, over his alleged threats to make life miserable for Igbos in Lagos if they sabotage efforts being made to ensure that the governorship candidate of  the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akinwunmi Ambode, is elected as the next governor of state.
Edwin Clark Attacks Oba Akiolu Over Threats To Igbos
Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu
According to Thetrentonline.com, Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information described the utterances made by the Oba as unbecoming of a traditional ruler, adding that such utterances should never have emanated from a person of such high regard.
He said: “It is most disheartening to learn today that the Oba of Lagos is pouring acidic vitriol on non-Yoruba in Lagos, singling out the Igbo, for voting President Goodluck Jonathan, in last week’s election.
Adding that: It is doubly shameful, most unbecoming of the standard set by previous Obas of Lagos like Oba Oyekan that Oba Akiolu is reported to have threatened to throw all those who voted in Lagos State against the APC into the waters of Lagos. What would possess the occupier of such an important stool in Nigeria to commit himself in partisan politics to the extent of threatening life and safety, before the voting, and within a week of Mr. President’s display of statesman-like handling of political outcomes?”
Clerk urged the  non-indegenes  of Lagos to ignore Oba Akiolu’s threat and vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Jimi Agbaje, noting that the Oba was note above the law.
Meanwhile, some Yoruba monarchs have asked the Igbo people to forgive the Oba Akiolu for his conduct, adding that Yoruba and Igbo will continue living peacefully side by side.
Oba Kayode Akinyemi, the Alabirun of Ikare, speaking on behalf of seven other Obas, insisted that Akiolu’s statement, which generated many angry reactions, should be seen as a slip of the tongue.

How To Start A Manufacturing Company In Nigeria

Have you ever heard about the sayings that Nigeria is a consumer-driven economy? The Manufacturing sector in Nigeria is currently growing faster than the telecommunications, oil and gas and agricultural sectors. Nigeria’s large population of upwardly mobile consumers, coupled with investments in power, implies that the strong growth of manufacturers, including food producers and breweries, is sustainable. Manufacturers in ….Nigeria had attributed the remarkable increase recorded in capacity utilization within the last year to favorable government policies, especially with respect to industry, trade and investment. Manufacturing in Nigeria also potentially provides you more leverage from your investment of money than many other categories of business. Since you are adding value to raw materials, equipment, and capital costs, you can often be quite profitable.

How to start manufacturing in Nigeria:

Manufacturing can be challenging, but the rewards can be great — both emotionally and financially.
The first and the most important of all is, of course, an idea. I often hear people say, I need to make money and my question is, are you the government? It is absolutely illegal to make money. This idea- that you need to make money to have it – limits you to believing you must trade time for money. Quit thinking about making money and think in terms of collecting it. When you trade something of value with the public you will get money in return. However, if you are interested in how to start your own manufacturing business you most likely already know what you would like to produce. Nevertheless, it is crucial that you are absolutely sure that the product you wish to produce is actually needed. After all, you have to sell your product if you want to succeed. There are no guarantees that people will like your product, however, this is a risk every entrepreneur needs to take.

Things to do first:

• Idea about what to Manufacture
• Research on the products and its target market
• Find the location for your factory and office
• Register your company with the corporate affairs of Nigeria
• Raise funds from Loans, Savings, SMEs funding program, Donations.
• Buy the Machines needed (preferably from India or China).
• Assemble the Machines
• Employ few worker at first
• Start Manufacturing
• Promote your Products
• Sell Your products

Management is an important aspect of business and many company fail simply because of the way they are managed. As the Owner of the company, it is your duty to set up a great team that will achieve the objectives of the company. You have to build a good team, inspire them to do more, acknowledge their success, avail a better working condition for them, give them task to do with limits, provide the opportunity to them in taking some key decisions, make sure they love what they do and promote them when necessary.

2. FINANCIAL PLAN:

This is another good aspect of business. Hire some good accountants to assist you on this area. Get advice from reliable accountants. Make sure everything is documented and done properly. Regulate their work and access their progress.

Marketing is a good branch of business that is very important in making your products known to the people. Hire people with marketing knowledge who can identify the target market for your product. Create a marketing strategy and share it with them for effective implementation.

Marketing Mix:

The 4cs and 4 ps-

• Consumer wants/needs-VS-Products: – You have to study consumer wants and needs and then attract consumers one by one with something each one wants.

• Cost-VS-Price: – One of the most difficult places to be in the business world is the retailer selling at the lowest price. If you rely strictly on price to compete you are vulnerable to competition – in the long term.

• Convenience-VS-Place: – Place is where the customer meets the salesperson. This may be a retail establishment, the customer’s home or office or some other places.

• Communication-VS-Promotion: – Promotion is the tool that the market uses to inform the population about the product. In order for somebody to know they can get the product from a place for a price, they’ll have to have that product promoted to them in one way or another. Promotion exists in many forms, and it continues to evolve to this day.

SWOT Analysis:

Structured planning method used to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats involved in a project or in a business venture.

• Strengths:

What advantages does your organization have?
What do you do better than anyone else?
What unique or lowest-cost resources can you draw upon that others can’t?
What do people in your market see as your strengths?
What factors mean that you “get the sale”?

Consider your strengths from both an internal perspective, and from the point of view of your customers and people in your market.

• Weaknesses:

What could you improve?
What should you avoid?
What are people in your market likely to see as weaknesses?
What factors lose you sales?

Consider this from an internal and external basis: Do other people seem to perceive weaknesses that you don’t see?

• Opportunities:

What good opportunities can you spot?
What interesting trends are you aware of?
Changes in technology and markets on both a broad and narrow scale.
Changes in government policy related to your field.

• Threats:

What obstacles do you face?
What are your competitors doing?
Are quality standards or specifications for your job, products or services changing?
Is changing technology threatening your position?
Do you have bad debt or cash-flow problems?
Could any of your weaknesses seriously threaten your business?

Other important things to consider are as follows:

– Brand strategy
– Competitive analysis
– Market trends
– Target Customer group
– Market share
– Customer demographics
– Sales strategy
– Distribution strategy
– E-commerce and technology
– Pricing and positioning
