JONTHAN`S REGIME MOST CORRUPT

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation on Thursday described the President Goodluck Jonathan administration as the most reckless and corrupt in the nation’s history.
It expressed regret that apart from its corruption and reckless behaviour, the Jonathan administration had achieved an unprecedented distinction in dividing Nigerians along ethno-religious lines.
The APC campaign organisation added that the Jonathan’s administration had destroyed international relationships that took the country many years to build.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the APCPCO, Mallam Garba Shehu, said this at a press conference in Abuja.
He explained that since President Jonathan took over power over four years ago, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had not recorded a single high profile conviction.
This, he said, was in stark contrast to the EFCC’s past record, where former governors and other senior public officials accused of defrauding the Nigerian people were tried and prosecuted.
Shehu said, “Thus, we can safely say that President Jonathan has muzzled the EFCC. He has turned one of our country’s most respected and revered institutions into a toothless bulldog without even as much as a bark.
“It is startling to see the dexterity with which the President sacked the former chairman of the SURE-P scheme owing to his pronouncement on the desirability of change. Meanwhile, ministers and other senior members of his government who have heavy allegations of corruption hanging on their necks still comfortably retain their positions.
“Not only has he bound the EFCC from doing its job, Mr. Jonathan has also reversed some previous achievements of the commission by granting state pardon to erstwhile government officials whom it had uncovered as guilty of corruption.
“To make matters worse, at present the EFCC itself is in a turmoil… The commission’s members of staff are also being owed salaries and entitlements, having not been paid for three months.”
Nigeria, he said, had remained in an abysmal low on the Transparency International ranking of corrupt countries in the world.

OBAS DONT CAMPAIGN FOR POLITICIANS-AWUJALE

The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, has told President Goodluck Jonathan, that it is not proper in Ijebuland or Yorubaland for an Oba to canvass for votes for any candidates seeking elective posts.
Rather, monarchs in Yorubaland only encourage their subjects to make their informed choices.
The monarch said this when President Goodluck Jonathan paid a private visit to him in his palace in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
President Jonathan, who arrived the palace around 11.15am in a convoy, was accompanied by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adamu Mu’azu; a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; Governors of Bayelsa and Ondo states, Seriake Dickson and Olusegun Mimiko respectively, among others.
The royal father said any Oba canvassing for votes for any political party’s candidate would be courting trouble. He said rather than engaging monarchs for campaign, each candidate must go out and sell his or manifesto to the electorate.
He said, “In Ijebu here, it is not possible for any Oba, not even only in Ijebu, in Yorubaland, to go out and say vote for this, vote for that; that person is looking for trouble.
“But give them the opportunity to present their programmes so that people can make up their minds on what to do. I think this is a very sound democratic principle and that is what I have decided to do, to give you the opportunity of meeting with the people.”
Oba Adetona noted that it was when the candidate would have presented the manifesto that the voters would decide whether or not to vote for him or her.
He said, “One, they see you as a person. Whether to engage with you or not to listen to you and see if there are areas where we can meet is a question for individual reason. As a result, everybody congregating belong to different groups. They are members of the PDP, the All Progressives Congress, All Progressives Grand Alliance. They belong to various interests, and when they come, they get to the gate, they shed their togas.
“The PDP will remove their PDP, the APC will remove their own. They will remove their own. They are going to the palace to meet their ruler, their paramount ruler; to receive that important august visitor who is coming to their land and give him all honour that is entitled to him.”
He, however, advised the electorates to vote for those that had the fear of God and integrity and not those who would mortgage their future, after offering them gifts.
He said, “Each time I have cause to talk to our people, I have always told them, in the churches and mosques that when you’re going to vote, make sure you back your sons and daughters who will give something back to you; not the ‘Ojelus’ (looters).
“Those who will be honest with you, who know the way of God; those are the people you should vote for; not those who will give you two, three spoons and mortgage your future. It is not right.”
The monarch, who prayed to God to guide the country right, acknowledged that he had never seen any election that was full of tension in the last 55 years like the current one coming up in less than two weeks.
President Jonathan had earlier in his speech highlighted his achievements to the monarch, which he said, cut across party, ethnic and religious lines in the last four years.
He said, “In the road infrastructure, we have tried. Railway is back, we are trying to improve our terminal buildings and security environment in our airports.
“The Health sector, we have tried both in the tertiary level, or what we call health tourism. Some of our hospitals are now open for kidney transplant and at the primary level we are able to eradicate guinea worm and we are on the way of eradicating polio completely from this country.”
President Jonathan explained that his administration’s focal activities when re-elected would be the implementation of the report of the National Confab as well as facilitate the construction of four deep sea port projects which include the Olokola in Ijebuland, that of Badagry, Akwa Ibom and the Age in Bayelsa State.
Speaking earlier on behalf of Ijebu Traditional Council, the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Yinusa Adekoya, had drawn the attention of the President to the non-appointment of indigenes of Ijebuland to any prominent position at the federal level.
President Jonathan who promised to correct this if re-elected, described Ijebuland “as a great land and there’s no government that will neglect the people of Ijebuland, I have to take that very very seriously.”

SCHOOL BOY HANGED SELF IN UK

Temidayo Joseph inquest: Schoolboy hanged himself in Robin Williams experiment gone 'horribly wrong'

Temidayo Joseph, 16, may have hanged himself in a “horrible mistake” after he experimented to see how Hollywood legend Robin Williams died

An inquisitive schoolboy may have hanged himself in a “horrible mistake” after he experimented to see how Hollywood legend Robin Williams died, an inquest heard.

Temidayo Joseph, 16, died in his bedroom just hours after collecting his GCSE results.

The talented footballer was found slumped in a seated position on the floor by his mum Kate with his school tie around his neck.

An inquest heard in the days leading up to his death the “lively and popular” youngster had spoken with a cousin and questioned why the famous actor would have wanted to end his life.

Essex Coroner Eleanor McGann said: “There was a conversation which took place about big news in the media about the death of Robin Williams.

“Temi had said ‘I don’t understand why somebody would do this to themself’.

“I do wonder if this bright, little boy... perhaps he was just experimenting to see how Robin Williams killed himself, but with no intention of doing it himself

“We know it’s incredibly easy to hang yourself from a sitting position. “It’s perfectly possible that he did not have any idea how easy it is to hang yourself by mistake.

“That would seem to fit with this happy little boy with an enquiring mind who has made a horrible mistake.”

Detective Sergeant Tara Barnes told the inquest she had concluded her report into the death by saying: “I had no information that his intention was to kill himself.”

The inquest at Essex Coroner’s Court heard no suicide note was found and Temi’s family said he had been looking forward to enrolling at college.

Buhari Makes A Firm Declaration On Religion

The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), said in Kaduna on Wednesday that the ruling People’s Democratic Party had been using religion to deceive Nigerians about the change they desired even as the general elections draw closer.
Buhari Makes A Firm Declaration On Religion
General Muhammadu Buhari
Buhari said the PDP had been using religion to divide the people whereas religion “is a matter of personal conviction.”
The former Head of State, who spoke through the vice presidential candidate of the APC, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, at an inter-faith engagement in Kaduna, said, “And they have succeeded in making some of us victims of the tales which they invent, propagate and sell as gospel truth to gullible listeners; while it is all nothing but tissues of lies.”
“I would like to solemnly declare that in spite of what detractors say, I am not a religious fanatic of any sort and I have never been.
“In all my life, I have never supported extremism of any kind, and nowhere in my record of service to our nation can this false toga, which political traducers have tried so hard to put on me, be substantiated
“Let me state this categorically that, I, Muhammadu Buhari, as an individual, and as a president, if given the opportunity to serve, have no personal religious agenda. And will not entertain, consider or promote the religious agenda of anyone.
“I will not condone any initiative that seeks to promote one religion over the other. Neither I, nor my party, or any member of my team has any desire or plan to Islamise or Christianise Nigeria or support anyone with such intention.”

He said he was recently informed that his administration as Head of State from December 31, 1983 to August 17, 1985, had a balanced cabinet with key positions such as Finance, Energy and Defence occupied by Christians, adding that 11 of the 19 governors he appointed were Christians
In addition, Buhari said the most memorable recollections of his subordinate service was under a Christian boss.
“The finest the country had then and among the most respected today. Indeed one of the best appraisals I received in the course of my military career was from General T.Y. Danjuma,” the APC candidate added.
Buhari explained that in the military where he served, it was practically impossible to be a bigot.
He said: “My background is in the army and there is no doubt that the military is one of the most integrated pan-Nigerian institutions in this country. And even today, the military is one of the few national institutions that represent the pride of our nation’s possibilities in unity. Soldiers from every nook and cranny of this country come together. Work and live together, entrust their lives to each other and integrated their families.
“It is a military where many of my dearest friends, from all faiths and parts of the country, lost their lives defending the unity of our nation. That was the military I served in, and in the Nigerian military that I know and can speak of, it was impossible to be a bigot.”
It will be recalled that General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd), on Wednesday, said that his administration would not condone stealing or any form of corrupt practices from public office holders if elected into power.

UNDER GEJ, Even EFCC Boss Is Accused Of Corruption — Buhari

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, has stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has not recorded any high profile conviction since President Goodluck Jonathan came to power four years ago.

Speaking through his spokesperson Garba Shehu at a press conference Thursday in Abuja, Mr. Buhari said EFCC’s inability to record a conviction is in stark contrast to its past record, where former governors and other senior public officials accused of defrauding the Nigerian people were tried and prosecuted.

“Thus, we can safely say that President Jonathan has muzzled the EFCC. “He has turned one of our country’s most respected and revered institutions into a toothless bulldog without even as much as a bark,”
 he said.

Mr. Shehu said it is startling to see the dexterity with which the President sacked the former chairman of the SURE-P scheme owing to his pronouncement on the desirability of change.

Mr. Jonathan had sacked Martin Agwai as SURE-P chairman after he reportedly attended the birthday celebration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The retired Army General was also reported to have talked about the “desirability for change” in the country.

Mr. Shehu said the president hastily sacked the SURE-P boss, adding “meanwhile, ministers and other senior members of his government who have heavy allegations of corruption hanging on their necks still comfortably retain their positions”.

He said not only did Mr. Jonathan stop the EFCC from doing its job, but that he has also reversed some previous achievements of the commission by granting state pardon to erstwhile government officials whom it had uncovered as guilty of corruption.

“To make matters worse, at present the EFCC itself is in turmoil.

“Its chairman is accused by staff of corruption. The commission’s staff is also being owed salaries and entitlements, having not been paid for three months.
“It is no wonder, therefore, that Nigeria remains in an abysmal low on the Transparency International ranking of corrupt countries in the world,”
 he said.

He added that yet another clear example of the wanton corruption that has become commonplace in President Jonathan’s government is the recent announcement by the Nigerian Senate that the Ministry of Works’ budget has been reduced by 89 percent.

“Who was the intended recipient of the unnecessary, extra 89 percent? Into whose pockets were the superfluous millions intended? And if indeed the 89 percent was essential to the effective functioning of the ministry, is the reduction just an attempt by the PDP government to punish Nigerians for asking for CHANGE?”
 he said.

Boko Haram allowed to fester.
On the issue of security, Mr. Shehu said the Nigerian armed forces – in collaboration with a multinational force made up of armies of neighbouring African countries – have recently recorded a number of significant victories in the fight against Boko Haram, with about 36 territories taken back from the insurgents over the past few weeks.

“This is commendable. We congratulate our armed forces,” he said.

“However, we cannot ignore the fact that President Jonathan left the issue to fester for too long.
“All this effort could have been applied much earlier, thus saving hundreds of lives and preventing thousands of displaced persons who are currently languishing in camps and homes in northeast Nigeria and parts of Abuja
– with little help and attention from their government.

“We cannot but conclude that the Jonathan government allowed Boko Haram fester because of the political mileage gained from the crises. He did not show any concern for the people of northeast Nigeria while they suffered under the continuous, brutal attacks of the terrorists.

“He still does not care about them. For him, a victory over Boko Haram is simply an attempted victory over the hearts of Nigerian voters in the 2015 elections,”
 he said.

Making Nigeria A Laughing Stock
The APC Presidential candidate also said President Jonathan is making Nigeria a laughing stock in the comity of nations.

He said the President has once again dragged Nigeria into the theatre of the absurd, making a mockery of his office through the current embarrassing debacle with the King of Morocco over a purported telephone conversation.

“This is just the latest in a series of diplomatic faux pas.
“President Jonathan is destroying international relationships that existed before his tenure. He has already earned the scorn of other world leaders, such as Obama, through his poor human rights record,”
 he said.

I Rejected Jonathan’s Offer Of Interim VP – Tinubu

A National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, says the recent attacks on his person were because he rejected the offer by President Goodluck Jonathan to serve as the Vice President in an Interim National Government.

Tinubu said in a statement by his media office on Thursday that having refused the offer, Jonathan was looking for ways to take him out either by killing him or getting him arrested based on trumped-up charges.

The former governor of Lagos State said the Peoples Democratic Party had never been this rattled in its 16 years of power.

He said Jonathan blamed him for the successful merger of the APC and the momentum the APC presidential candidate, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was gaining in the current electioneering.

Tinubu said with the North-West and the South-West — the two most populous geo-political zones — in the hands of the APC, it was certain that the PDP would lose.

The statement read, “With the election less than three weeks away and the outcome possibly against them, the Goodluck Jonathan Presidency and the hardliners in the PDP have embarked on a new strategy to put a brake on the momentum Buhari seems to be gathering.

“This strategy is novel and seems to be the outcome of a desperate calculation in that the PDP has shifted its attention from the APC in order to attack on multiple fronts the former governor of Lagos State and APC national leader, Bola Tinubu.

“From what can be gathered through informed sources, the PDP and Jonathan Presidency had recently tried to fracture the APC by offering Tinubu the position of Vice President in an interim government if he would agree to part company with the popular Buhari.

“Once Tinubu rebuffed the offer to participate in the interim scheme, the presidency decided to change tactics. It would no longer try to entice Tinubu with sugar but would now move to silence, and if necessary, neutralise him. The APC National leader has caused President Jonathan’s team countless headaches this campaign season, his declining the interim government offer is just the latest.

“The Jonathan government sees Tinubu as the linchpin of the APC and its successful electoral strategy. They also consider him one of the government’s most prolific and able critics due to his long standing and often strident critiques of Jonathan government policies, from economic development to national security.

“More to the point, they blame him as the man who is most responsible for placing them in their current electoral quandary. They believe without Tinubu’s efforts, the successful merger of the political parties into the APC would not have occurred and they would not be facing possible defeat at the hands of this new party.”

The former governor said the recent televised hate documentaries were part of the desperate attempt by Jonathan to discredit him.

He added that Jonathan might even accuse him of the murder of the PDP candidate, Mr. Funsho Williams, who was killed in 2006.

The statement added, “The agenda to tackle Bola Tinubu and weaken his political influence nationwide and to undermine his leadership in South Western politics can be said to have gone into the overdrive.

“The first part of the strategy is to dredge previously discredited claims of illicit wealth in hopes of silencing Tinubu or lessening his public image. However, they fear this public relations attack may be too soft as Tinubu has been taken before the ICPC and the case against him dismissed.

“If this attack does not deter his party activities, the presidency and PDP are prepared to take more drastic action if they believe it is necessary to win the election by throwing the APC into disarray.”

Obanikoro’s Confirmation Is A Shame

Nigeria’s senate has been blamed for asking Senator Musiliu Obanikoro to take a bow amidst objection by senators from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Obanikoro’s Confirmation Is A Shame
Musiliu Obanikoro
The action was described as a shame since Obanikoro was allegedly involved in the rigging of the Governorship election that took place in Ekiti State in 2014 as contained in an audio on the issue, which went viral few weeks back.
Speaking further on the matter in an interview, the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos Sta;te House of Assembly, Hon. Musibau Kolawole Taiwo said that Obanikoro shouldn’t have been asked to take a bow based on what is now tagged; Ekitigate scandal, as he said that he did not go to the senate as a former senator this time around, but as a former minister.
He stressed that if Nigeria were to be a country, where democracy thrives, even President Goodluck Jonathan ought to have resigned over the controversial matter.
“The funniest thing is that it is not about Senator Musiliu Obanikoro being at the meeting, but he is the only person amongst those that were indicted that is still denying his involvement in the matter. Others like Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State and Senator Iyiola Omisore have admitted that they were part of the meeting.
“Obanikoro said that he was not at the meeting even, when his voice was loud and clear, which means his case is double jeopardy for Nigeria. A minister of the federation used his portfolio to rig an election. He now lied that he was not there. Even President Jonathan is just doing whatever he likes these days, if not he would not have returned such a person as a minister in this country again,” he stated.
On the walk-out staged by APC senators during the clearance of Obanikoro at the senate chamber, the Deputy Speaker said that they did that to express their grievances over the matter, and that the PDP and Obanikoro would still have had their way since what was needed was a simple majority to pass the ministerial nominee.
He accused some legislators of not voting according to their conscience in certain matters, and that some PDP senators would have voted against Obanikoro if they followed their conscience.
According to Kolawole, some senators would have lost elections because of their role in the matter, while emphasising that it was time we started testing the truth in Nigeria.
“People should look at what you have done in the past and if there is anyone that negates what you are saying now, you are in trouble. The legislature needs to explain their actions. Some actions look so simple, but they could destroy the country. I expect the people to start querying the legislature. The precedent would not have changed if they turned Obanikoro down,” he said.
The lawmaker reiterated his views on card reader, which he said he has never seen before, but that based on the reports, he has read, the device worked well, when it was tested in some states recently, and that we need to consider its advantages.
He said that no election can be 100 per cent accurate, but that card reader should be supported by the people and politicians, who don’t have other means of winning elections.
Kolawole maintained that anyone that is against card reader is an enemy of the nation, adding that the INEC has successfully given PVC to 80 per cent of the registered voters.
“The Governors of the PDP that were criticising INEC on the elections were part of the 36 state governors that locked themselves up in a room to elect the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) and because they didn’t win, they were unable to announce the result of only 36 ballot papers.
“Are they the ones, who would say something is good or not. They have no moral justification to comment about elections. They don’t even have patriotic mind to accept the result of their own club. They are talking about INEC that would conduct elections in 36 states for almost 100 million people,” he said.
The politician faulted President Jonathan for allegedly lying that he spoke with King Mohammed V1 of Morocco on the phone, which the country has since denied and over which the country subsequently recalled her ambassador to Nigeria over the matter.
He stated that this was enough for the president to resign as he, according to him, portrayed the country as a liar.
“It is gross misconduct, if the National Assembly does not do anything about it, then they do not worth our votes. Why should a sitting president lie. I always say that we lose our sovereignty the moment we elect someone into an office and we cannot get it back until his tenure expires.
“President Jonathan is Nigeria, and if a country now says that Mr. Nigeria is lying to the extent that the man now recalls his ambassador to Nigeria, then Nigeria is sick and we need a medical attention,” he explained.

It will be recalled that Following his confirmation as a minister, Musiliu Obanikoro, had said that he holds no grudge against All Progressives Congress (APC) Senators from Lagos who stood against his nomination.

ROBBERY IN LAGOS

Armed men dressed in army uniform stormed the First City Monument Bank in Lekki, Lagos late in the afternoon shooting sporadically.
According to the News24, an unknown number of people have been killed following the bank robbery operation in Lagos. The bank is said to be located around the Lekki/Ikoyi bridge. (Scroll down for photos)
An eyewitness said that a large number of armed men invaded the bank shooting sporadically.
According to the Punch, the robbers robbed a bank at Lekki phase 1 and attempted to escape through the link bridge to Ikoyi when they encountered policemen.
Reportedly, policemen on duty in a bullion van have been shot dead as commuters scamper for safety, abandoning their vehicles. The robbers are said to have fled on speedboat.
“Around 4.45pm, I was driving to my office in Ikoyi from Lekki but when I got a spot on the bridge, I heard sporadic gunshots. Fortunately, policemen at the tail end of the bridge inwards Ikoyi, shot back,” the eyewitness, who identified himself as Tayo, said.
“We all came out of our vehicles and laid on the floor to avoid being hit by stray bullets. At some point, some of the policemen were overwhelmed by the fire power of the robbers and had to flee. The robbers later jumped into a speed boat and escaped through the water,” he added.
According to the LindaIkeji blog, three police officers, three civilians were shot dead. A fish seller who has been shot was rushed to the hospital. Five other people who were hit by stray bullets were also rushed to the hospital.

NDLEA Arrests Woman Who Inserted Heroin In Private Part,

The 31-year-old lady, Aladi Onyinye Juliet, who was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency during the inward screening of passengers on an Emirate flight, said she took to drug trafficking to settle her bills.

The desperate single mother said she inserted parcels of heroin into her private part and ingested others because she needed money to pay her house rent and pay her kid’s school fees.

Juliet said some Pakistanis gave the drugs to her.
The suspect said she established link with some Pakistani drug traffickers who sponsored her trip in collaboration with some local accomplices.

Juliet added: “I’m a single mother and I need money to take care of myself and child. I used to sell clothes but the profit is inadequate to sustain my family. I would have earned half a million naira to pay for my rent and my child’s school fees if I had succeeded in bringing the drug. They paid for my return ticket and hotel accommodation. While in my hotel room, a Pakistani woman came to give me the drug. She also instructed me to conceal it in my private part to avoid arrest. Unfortunately, the NDLEA officers detected it.”
The drugs concealed are 430 grammes.

The NDLEA commander at the Lagos airport, Hamza Umar, while commenting on the incident, said the arrest was facilitated with the aid of scanning machines.
Umar said: “During the inward screening of Emirate passengers, one Aladi Onyinye Juliet tested positive for narcotic ingestion. While under observation, the drug was subsequently expelled, field-tested and weighed.”
The Chairman of the Agency, Ahmadu Giade, said the NDLEA will continue to detect narcotics with the help of technological tools.

Giade said: “The NDLEA is investing in capacity building and modern equipment in drug detection. We hope to dislodge drug trafficking cartels through superior intelligence and best global practices. Investigation is on-going to arrest other members of the drug cartel connected to her case.”

However, what became very surprising was the denial of journalists, access to cover the President’s visit.

It was gathered that journalists were barred from entering the palace as strict looking and gun wielding security personnel at the main gate refused them entrance.
Also at the Oba’s palace was the former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel who was part of the entourage that arrived at the palace.
It was reported that some of the journalists who were later granted access by the security men at the gate, had to disguise as PDP chieftain using their PDP membership cards.
According to the journalists, they were not allowed into the main hall where the meeting was holding.
Party supporters who also came to welcome the President were disappointed as all of them were not allowed to gain entrance to the palace or even see the number one citizen.
The detail of the meeting is still very sketchy as fans and journalists wondered why they were refused entry. But be rest assured Naij.com will keep you posted as more development unfold.
