Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross Rivers state has accused the All Progressives Congress of employing desperate tactics in a bid to score cheap political points.
The governor, according to The Nation, made these accusations in reaction to an alleged plot by the APC to embark on a smear campaign against his person.
Imoke in a statement yesterday, March, 29, described the allegations of manipulation of the elections against his person as a plot to discredit the outcome of the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
Speaking through Mr Christian Ita, his chief press secretary, Imoke said: “the latest allegations are the antics of a drowning opposition desperate to stay afloat by hanging on straws. This is falsehood taken to the level of absurdity.
“They should also stop fanning the embers of violence through false claims and hate campaigns. Election is about the people and it is won on the ground and not on facebook or bulk sms,” the statement further stated.
The PDP has come under intense scrutiny by members of the opposition who have persistently accused the party of plotting to rig the on-going general elections
A report by Premium times yesterday alleged that the party had perfected plans to rig the polls in favour of Presient Jonathan and other PDP candidates.
