The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the fire that gutted some parts of its storage facilities in Abuja will not affect the upcoming general elections. The Commissioner in charge of Electoral Operations and Logistics, Mohammed Hamanga, said that the affected materials, which were in the process of being destroyed, were obsolete.
According to an official of the commission, the fire outbreak was as a result of a surge in electricity after three days of power cut.
It was gathered that the fire which started at 11:00 PM was contained by 2:00AM due to the quick response of officials of INEC and the Federal Fire Service, who forced their way into the warehouse.
The Commissioner in charge, who inspected the affected areas of the warehouse, allayed fears that the fire would affect the reschedule elections.
INEC have faced lots of challenges on the road to the 2015 general elections, but the commission has reinstated its commitment to deliver a free and fair election, despite its challenges.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was established by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to, among other things, organize elections into various political offices in the country.

APC Governorship Aspirant, His Brother Tragically Die
Abdul-Aziz Aliyu, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State, is dead.

According to Premium Times, the victim and his younger brother, Salmanu Aliyu, were killed in an auto accident along Jere Town of Kaduna State on March 15, 2015.
Abubakar Aliyu, who was speaking on behalf of the family, told reporters in Kano that the tragic accident happened on Saturday afternoon when the victims were returning from Abuja.
Mr. Aliyu said the APC aspirant was in Lagos for an official engagement on March 13, 2015. He added that the politician was to travel to Kano same day, but he had to stop over in Abuja as his flight from the Nigerian capital was cancelled due to bad weather.
Salmanu, who was also in Abuja for a private engagement, joined his elder brother for the road trip to Kano during which the accident happened.

“Omeiza (the late politician’s son) spoke with his father around 1.30 p.m. on Saturday few minutes before the ill-fated journey. We received the shocking and sad news of his demise from samaritans at the scene of the accident,” Aliyu said.
According to the report, none of passengers on Sharon car survived and they have been given mass burial at a location at Jere town.
Commenting on the accident, Jimoh Aliyu, the father of the deceased, described the tragedy as a fulfillment of destiny and added that he “accepted it as an act of God”.
Earlier this year Bayelsa people suffered a horrible tragedy when 11 prominent female politicians died in a ghastly motor accident near the Old Ahoada Market road along the East-West road of Rivers State.
APC Raises Alaram Over Alleged Fayose's Plot
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has raised the alarm over alleged plan by Governor Ayodele Fayose to arrest the party leaders before presidential election.
According to the statement issued by Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, the party had uncovered the governor’s plot to use trumped-up charges to incarcerate the leaders in order to cripple the party’s mobilization efforts for victory.
The secretary said that to achieve the plan, thugs dressed in police uniforms would be unleashed on the opposition to create fears in the minds of APC members.
“After it became clear that soldiers would not be allowed to be deployed for the polls, PDP leaders in Ekiti State have opted for the police. They have discovered that the fake army uniforms they sewed would be useless and they have started sewing police uniforms for their operation,” Olatubosun stated.
He added that the young men in six 18-seater buses imported into the state at night about three weeks ago with military uniforms in their luggage.
Continuing his speech, the APC spokesperson said party members would use legal means, including civil actions, to defend their votes against any invaders on election day.
“We want to send a strong warning to Fayose that it is not going to be business as usual this time around. He did his worst during the last governorship election when the Nigerian Army personnel deployed to Ekiti State helped him to supervise election rigging. Details of the criminal conspiracy are being heard around the world over that despicable act. We have learnt our lessons and he should be told that APC members are prepared for the worst of his plans.
“We will never get ourselves involved in criminalities but we will defend our votes by all means legal and civil. Let Fayose know that as he is planning for his rigging, we are also planning to defend our votes. If he believes he can’t survive without bending the law, we will show him that upholding the law by defending our votes remains the only way to make democracy work,” he said.

Olatubosun urged the police authorities not to be compromised, saying that siding with a party in political contest was a recipe for the breakdown of law and order. He also called on the security agencies to rein in the governor against any impious activities and asked all members to be ready to defend their votes during election.
“We also say in clear terms that APC members will resist illegal arrests being planned by PDP leaders. Ekiti State is not a jungle for all illegal plans by PDP. For the first time since Fayose has been riding rough-shod on the APC members and Ekiti people in general, our people armed with the law of Nigeria will vehemently resist any plan to constrict their voting right to elect leaders of their choice.”
Recently, Ekiti state governor stated has that there are tendencies clearly indicating that Muhammadu Buhari, will lose the elections. He believes that the alleged tactical withdrawal of support by former vice president Atiku Abubakar and by northern leaders is the beginning of the end.
Some aggrieved women in Emure Ekiti, on Wednesday took the streets in protest over the arrest of over 30 of their children by the Police.
The children were arrested in connection with the alleged attempt to burn the palace of Elemure of Emure Ekiti, Oba Emmanuel Adebayo, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police and ex-Commissioner of Police in Lagos and Abuja.
According to report, some of the women were half-naked, holding leaves and singing hate songs against the monarch, while demanding for the release of their children.
Trouble was said to have started last Monday, when a group of angry youths of the community took to the streets to protest against power cut by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company. In the process, they were arrested.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, had told journalists that the youths were arrested for attempting to burn the king’s palace and for attacking the police station in the town.

Female Student Goes Blind After Slap By Principal’s Secretary
Before January 29, 2015, the girl’s eyes could be said to be perfect, going by the picture she took with her friends the same month when the school celebrated its 50th anniversary. But the tide changed against Iyanu and it seems she has lost an eye.http://tribune.com.ng/quicklinkss/features/item/31944-principal-s-secretary-in-trouble-for-slapping-student-as-girl-goes-blind-in-one-eye
Sunday Tribune gathered that the event that led to the change in Iyanu’s life started when she was allegedly slapped by one Mrs Funke Fashina, said to be the secretary to the principal of the school. And what was her offence? The woman reportedly saw her and two other girls emerging from an unused room within the school building and enquired to know what they were doing there. Before they could reply, she landed a slap on Iyanu’s face first, and subsequently others.
The girl’s right eye was said to have developed a problem and had got worse, with the University CollegeHospital, Ibadan (UCH), saying that she would require a surgery. Iyanu told Sunday Tribune that she could no longer see with the right eye.
Narrating her experience to Sunday Tribune, Iyanu said:
“On Thursday, January 29, students were having an Agriculture class, so those of us offering Food and Nutrition left the class and three of us went to stay in one of the rooms in the building.
“We saw our teacher from the window of the room so we wanted to step out to go and meet her. As we were about to leave the room, we saw the secretary to the Principal, Mrs Funke Fasina. She asked us what we were doing in that room but before we could explain, she slapped us one after the other.
“By the time I got home, my left eye had turned red and painful. I told my mother what happened but she dismissed me, saying that I would not have been slapped if I didn’t do something wrong. On Monday February 9, my mother followed me to school and the principal asked my mother to take me to the hospital.
“We went to Catholic Hospital, Eleta, Ibadan and we were told to do the scan of the eye. By then, my eye had become bulgy and I was no longer seeing clearly. We went to St. Gregory’s Ultrasound Centre, Yemetu. From there, we went to the University College Hospital, Ibadan and I was told that I would undergo surgery. We were told to bring N300,000 as deposit. My parents have reported the case at the police station in Alakia Adelubi and the woman admitted that she slapped me.”
Iyanuoluwa said before the slap, she never had any pain or itch in her eye, so the report that she had a problem with her eye does not hold water. “Now I can no longer see with my right eye and I am going through a lot of pains,” she stated.
Iyanu’s mother, Mrs Damilola Dahunsi, corroborated her daughter’s narration, saying that she didn’t take the incident serious initially.
“To my surprise, the eye started swelling up. I followed my daughter to school on Monday, February 9 and the principal was shocked to see the eye.
“We went to Mrs Fashina and I begged her to give us an antidote if she used a charm on my daughter but she denied using charm to slap my daughter. My daughter never had any eye problem since she was born.
“We took Iyanuoluwa to UCH and we were told that she would go through surgery. We did CT scan at UCH but the result was cornered and we never saw it. We were told to go home when we could not pay the N300,000 we were asked to deposit.
“Unfortunately, the woman who slapped my daughter refused to do anything financially and my brother who went to the Commissioner for Education was told that efforts were on to go round schools for students to contribute money towards my daughter’s treatment.”
Sunkanmi Ojewumi, Iyanu’s uncle, decried the attitude of a staff of UCH (names withheld), whom he said tried to frustrate all their efforts because she is Mrs Fashina’s in-law.
“We didn’t get the result of the test carried out in UCH and the police at Alakia-Adelubi did not get it also. To our surprise, the result found its way to TESCOM where the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Giwa, told me he had seen the result and it indicated that the girl might have had underlying problems that resulted in the eye problem.
“He said the only way they could help was to go round schools and seek donations from students, which TESCOM would add to. It was claimed that she had a tumor in the eye. But we will not accept the result because the girl never had eye problem.
“We appeal to the government to come to the girl’s aid. We don’t have any money and the father’s shop at Oki area of Ibadan was razed recently and he lost goods worth millions of naira. The mother sells provisions.”
Sunday Tribune gathered that the case was eventually transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Iyaganku and was arraigned to court on Monday, March 9 for wounding. This was confirmed by the police’s spokesperson in Oyo State, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu.[quote]

Eurasia Group Releases Forecast For 2015 Election
World largest political risk consultancy, Eurasia Group, has released its forecast for the 2015 presidential election, predicting victory for Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Eurasia Group stated that Buhari’s victory would be possible by the intensity of supports for his candidature, lacklustre grassroots campaigning by the PDP and the anti-rigging measures put in place by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the group, the APC flag bearer would record a 60% victory against his main rival, President Goodluck Jonathan, who is hoping for reelection.
In an earlier forecast made in August 2014, the group predicted a victory for Jonathan, with a 75% margin against Buhari, Daily Trust reports.
However, in the new estimate made public on March 14, 2015, the political risk advisory said the indicators for the president’s electoral success had switched in favour of the APC candidate.
“We change our election forecast from a narrow win for incumbent Goodluck Jonathan to a victory for opposition leader Muhamadu Buhari (60% probability).
“The electoral map is tilting towards Buhari in the swing regions of the southwest and middle belt, while high turnout in his core northern base will offset Jonathan’s advantage in the Niger Delta,” the forecast read.
Eurasia Group predicted that under Buhari, “reliance on technocratic, business-oriented senior officials will lead to constructive policy initiatives.”
Speaking about the factors that would lead to Jonathan’s defeat, the group named the new permanent voting cards and card readers that would “sharply reduce the level of rigging seen in 2011, when Jonathan beat Buhari in a landslide.”
Another factor, mentioned by the group, was the “enthusiasm gap between the candidates and widespread desire for change” in the country.
READ ALSO: WITZAN Makes Disclosures About Elections
“While we expected the electoral map to favor Jonathan, current trends suggest that the swing regions may side with Buhari, including the Christian-majority and heavily populated South-West around Lagos. That could be the decisive demographic factor in the election.
“Jonathan won the South-West and middle belt handily in 2011, but faces an uphill task now. Buhari has reached out to the southwestern Yoruba community and brought them into the upper ranks of his campaign and potential administration, in a political alliance of the country’s two largest ethnic groups (the Hausa and Yoruba). In contrast, Jonathan has struggled to make inroads with either group.”
Meanwile, Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has predicted the aftermath of the 2015 presidential election, if Muhammadu Buhari emerges victorious after March 28. According to him, all corrupt leaders will immediately run away from Nigeria the moment the APC candidate is announced the winner of the presidential election.

1. The Battle of Baga 2013
In April 2013, there was a heavy gun duel between the Army(headed by Ihejirika) and the Boko Haram in Baga, Borno state. According to report by the media 185 people were killed including Boko Terrorists and civilians.
The fighting broke out in the remote fishing village of Baga, when gunmen/terrorist who were believed to be hiding among civilians opened fire on Nigerian soldiers. Military officials said the militants deployed heavy machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades and used the civilian population as "human shields."
The army also denied the 185 casualty figure but admitted that there could be few civilian casualties.

April, 2013: President Jonathan Response
President Jonathan who understands the mischief of foreign media and "so-called" right groups, ordered for "investigation" but showed support for the army. It is on record that some media and Right Groups are quick to shout "genocide" "massacre" "crime against humanity" etc whenever the Nigeria Army launches assault against Boko Terrorist. In the words of Ruben Abati,
“While the preliminary briefings indicate that the casualty figures being reported by the foreign media may be grossly exaggerated, President Jonathan assures Nigerians and the global community that the Federal Government of Nigeria places the highest possible value on the lives of all citizens of the country and that his administration will continue to do everything possible to avoid the killing or injuring of innocent bystanders in security operations against terrorists and insurgents. Rules of engagement for the military and security agencies are already in place for this purpose and the investigation ordered by President Jonathan into the incident in Baga is to amongst other things, determine whether or not these rules were fully complied with."
April, 2013: Baga Massacre; Crime Against Humanity – ACN Decries, Blames FG
Rather than stand by the army or keep shut, the ACN/APC blamed the Military and the President and called it "massacre" even without verifying what really happened. In the words of Lai Muhammed
‘’Enough is enough. Even in countries at war, innocent citizens are not being daily mowed to death either by insurgents or state forces, as we are experiencing in Nigeria. It is clear that the Nigerian government is either unwilling or unable to prosecute these crimes, despite the deceptive assurances by those at the helm, hence the ICC must immediately beam its search-light on the situation in Nigeria.”

May 15, 2013: Though the CPC Chairman Tony Momoh CONDEMNED the declaration, National Publicity of the CPC, Rotimi Fashakin, hailed the declaration.
“We need to rally round the President in this trying period. We pray that with this action, peace will eventually return to the states. However, it is gratifying that the President did not behave like a former President(Obasanjo) who removed the political structures when he declared a state of emergency in some states. The action of President Jonathan has shown that the choice made by the people through the ballot would not be denied them. May God help our country"
May 16, 2013: NBA, NLC, CAN Hail declaration
Mr Okey Wali, President of the NBA(as at then)
“We have no doubt that the President has received fresh intelligence that necessitates a harder measure to be taken to forestall further mindless attacks on Nigerians by insurgents. We are indeed satisfied by the decision as it has not eroded the political structure of the three states; suffice it to say that democracy is still in place in those areas.
The NLC President Abdulwaheed Omar
“I think first of all, we must understand that it is within the responsibilities of Mr. President to take whatever step he deems fit to ensure that there is peace and stability in this country. For Mr. President to have taken that decision would mean that definitely, he must have exploited all avenues and discovered that this is the best option. I want to commend that effort especially because of the way it is carried out. It would ensure that it is directly meant to ensure peace and security rather than being like a political victimisation. The pronouncement of the President shows that the executive, the legislature and the judiciary have continued to function.

If the use of force in the affected states have failed to curtail the activities of the insurgents, why send in more troops?

3. Prosciption And Declaration of Boko Haram As Terrorist Group
June 04,2013: Jonathan Declares and Proscribes Boko Haram, Ansaru as Terrorist Groups
According to the Presidency,
“It officially brings the activities of both groups within the purview of the Terrorism Prevention Act and any persons associated with the two groups can now be legally prosecuted and sentenced to penalties specified in the Act,” the statement said.
“The proscription order warns the general public that any person participating in any form of activities involving or concerning the collective intentions of
the said groups will be violating the provisions of the Terrorism Prevention Act
Section 5 (1) of the act prescribes a term of imprisonment of not less than 20 years for any person who knowingly, in any manner, directly or indirectly, solicits or renders support for the commission of an act of terrorism or to a terrorist group.
June 05, 2013: Senate, Reps Backs Move

"The government is determined to work with the international community to tackle terrorism and take the steps necessary to keep the UK public safe. Proscription of these groups sends a clear message that we condemn their activities."

5. Military Successes Over Boko Haram
25Feb, 2015: APC Senators Praise Jonathan, Military
Senator Maina Lawan(APC Borno) led the praise
"It is only fair Mr. President that this time around, when there is some cheering news, I should mention this to this Senate. I want to say that several territories hitherto inaccessible to Nigerian authorities have been liberated; Mongno which is a high military zone housing a whole brigade of the Nigerian Army has been liberated. Baga my home town has been liberated; the effort is ongoing and I think it is only fair that no matter what is left, it is important that we appreciate what is being done and I want to say that our troops are much more up and doing and we appreciate that effort. We ask them to do more so that in the areas they have liberated, mopping up is concluded for the communities to go back.”
Senators Buka Abba Ibrahim(APC, Yobe) and Ali Ndume Borno chorused the praise.

Motion was led by Hon. Muhammad Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno), and seconded by Hon. Abubakar Momoh (SDP, Edo)
“Almost all the local governments taken over by Boko Haram have now been liberated, so the armed forces require some encouragement from us in the parliament,”

24 Feb 2015: APC Blasted Jonathan Again
Rather than praise the President and The Army(like others were doing), the APC that has never hidden their stand against the use of force by the Army suddenly did a U-turn to praise the Army(hypocritically) but again lambasted the President, and went political. In the words of Lai Muhammed:
”Is it not curious that the same President who has stood by while Boko Haram decimates a whole section of the country over the past six years has suddenly realized there is something he could do to crush the sect in six weeks? Is it not curious that a military that has been globally acknowledged for its successes in peacekeeping at regional and international levels has suddenly found itself unable to tackle a band of criminals? Is it not curious that the necessary fighting equipment that have not been made available to the military, despite the injection of over 32 billion US dollars into the defence and security sector since 2008, have suddenly become available? President Jonathan, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, must take responsibility for the monumental cost, whether of his incompetence or his political strategy-gone-awry or both, apologize to the nation and immediately back down from seeking re-election. The President must not be allowed to profit from an error of judgement that has cost 15,000 lives, forced over 3 million out of
their homes and cost the taxpayers 32.88 billion US dollars,” APC said.

6. Gen Buhari's Conflicting Positions
26 Feb 2015: "No Amnesty For BH"
While the rest of Nigeria and the North East residents and citizens celebrates the success of the Army, Gen Buhari was somewhere in Chatham house talking about amnesty and no amnesty. In his own word...
“I think I will not go to that office with that promise. I have said in my address how, at least 13,000 Nigerians have been killed by Boko Haram, how millions of them have been displaced and are now kept in different camps called Internally Displaced Persons camps.
“Schools have been burnt, there is so much disruption to normal life; people cannot farm and where they are able to farm, they cannot harvest. So, granting amnesty to Boko Haram will be unfair to the system.”
www.nigerianeye.com/2015/02/no-amnesty-for-boko-haram-members-buhari.html?m=1ko
Meanwhile, he said nothing when FG proscribed BH and officially labelled it Terrorist Group in 2013. He said Nothing when the USA and UK followed suit. No one heard his support for the State of Emergency in 2013.

It is on record that the only action against BH that Buhari supported was when Jonathan setup a committee to look into the prospect of granting the terrorists amnesty IF they come out from their hiding.
In the words of Buhari in April, 2013
“It is good that they have set up a committee on amnesty. I have not seen the terms of reference, but it is a right step in a right direction. “This is not the first time amnesty would be given to a violent group. You remember it happened in the time of Yar’Adua when he gave amnesty to militants, but whatever would bring us peace as a society, we should do it,”
http://thenationonlineng.net/new/buhari-backs-amnesty-for-boko-haram/
In fact, in June 2013, he further advocated that BH be given the same Amnesty that was given to ND Militants and he condemned the killing, and burning of properties of members of the insurgents by the army.
“You see in the case of the Niger Delta militants, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua sent an airplane to bring them, he sat down with them and discussed with them, they were cajoled, and they were given money and granted amnesty.
“They were trained in some skills and were given employment, but the ones in the north are being killed and their houses demolished. They are different issues, what brought this? It is injustice.”

Today, Gen Buhari only remembered to kick against Amnesty when the Military is on the verge of wiping out BH once and for all from our territory.

Northern Emirs Are Confident In Jega's Conduct
The Northern Traditional Rulers Council has expressed confidence in the ability of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to lead the electoral body by conducting free, fair and transparent elections ahead of the March 28 and April 11 polls.
Moreover, the northern rulers council said it would neither endorse the PDP presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, nor its APC opponent, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), for president.
The statement was made on Saturday by the Etsu Nupe, Dr. Yahaya Abubakar, after the NTRC met in Kaduna on Wednesday to discuss the rising “social and political tension” in the country as the general elections approach.
The Chairman of the council, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and the other traditional rulers in attendance noted that the country must conduct peaceful and credible polls.
“The council noted the dire need for the emergence of free, fair and credible elections and resolved to lend a helping hand to the statutory body established to oversee the conduct of the elections that is INEC. The council equally commended the good work being done by INEC under the able leadership of Prof. Attahiru Jega and prayed for the success of INEC’s worthy assignment,” the NTRC said.
“As fathers of the nation and custodians of societal values, traditional rulers shall remain neutral and shall ensure that peace reigns. But the traditional rulers need the cooperation of the political leadership,” the statement said.
The northern rulers pointed out that they would do their part within the law to ensure politicians do not destroy the country in their desperation for power, adding that many citizens may have to bear the brunt of the crisis that may occur. Details on the Punch.
I Held Meetings With Snakes..." - Peterside Idah, ex-Eagles Goalkeeper
‘I held meetings with snakes': Shocking Confessions Of Former Super Eagles Idah Peterside
A startling interview conducted several years ago with former Super Eagles goalkeeper and SuperSport football analyst turned Pastor, Idah Peterside, has surfaced online.
Among other things, the ex-soccer star reveals his haunting journey into occultism, how his first marriage crashed and his relationship with controversial pastor T.B. Joshua.
“It was so bad for me that I even went into demonic worship; I was involved in occultism and people didn’t know,” Peterside told Nigerian Vanguard Newspapers in an exclusive interview in May 2009.
“I did all that because I wanted money and fame which were not coming. My case was so bad that I used to have meetings with snakes. Mine was top class; it was crazy.”
Explaining how he delved into the dark world of occultism, the popular football analyst revealed, “While we were preparing for Rivers ’88 in Port Harcourt, we were camped in a school called Enitonia High School and the school didn’t have a good toilet. On a particular day while I was going to the toilet near a building, I heard a voice say, ‘We want to bless you if you work for us’. Then I said, ‘Who are you?’ And the voice said, ‘Turn to your left’. When I turned, I saw a very big and lengthy snake, as big as a python, and it was as if the snake was looking at me. Then I started shivering like I had seen a ghost. You may not believe it but from that moment, I saw those snakes every night when I went to sleep.”
According to Peterside, who now pastors a church called ‘Christ Ambassadors Church’ in South Africa, his major activity was to ‘initiate’ women by sleeping with them. “What actually took me to the next level in occultism was dependent on the number of women I slept with because my covenant was to initiate women. I didn’t sleep with them for love or any relationship; my mission was just to initiate them and move on,” he explained.
“Automatically, every women I slept with was initiated – no argument. I was basically looking out for and sleeping with virgins because it was a blood covenant. You know, blood is spilled when you dis-virgin a girl. It was crazy.”
In reward for his devilish actions, Idah stated that he lacked nothing materially and even possessed strange powers within his eyes. “I got used to the snakes and when I had any problem, I’ll just tell them what I needed,” he told Vanguard.
“Before I knew it, money would come from nowhere – money worth as much as N5000 which was big then. Those days, when I signed for Sharks Football Club, my sign off fee was N1000 – just to tell you the worth of N5000 then. Things were happening for me and there was nothing I asked any person for that I didn’t get. All I needed do was turn around and look into your eyes – anything I said was done, whether man or woman.”
In 1996 however, the young man tearfully turned to God in prayer, realising he was treading a path toward destruction. “I was calling on God to forgive me, to save me. While I was praying, sitting and crying, suddenly I got filled with the Holy Spirit and started speaking in tongues,” he recalled.
“The next morning, as I went to the toilet, I saw those demonic people appear to me and say, ‘We’ll kill you’ – and I ran out Unclad from the toilet. I got so involved in church activities that in three months, I was teaching the Bible at home. In six months, I took off from Iwuanyanwu Nationale and went to Bible school. Since then, I’ve remained in the church.”
When asked his greatest regret, the footballer who plied his trade in Nigeria, Israel and South Africa revealed it was the collapse of his first marriage. “The greatest mistake I made in my life was to marry a foreigner. I was married to the South African lady for eight and a half years and it just didn’t work. The lady was beautiful but the culture and beliefs weren’t the same at all. Today, I look around and advise young ones who would listen to marry from their fatherland.
Idah revealed that his wife was lured away by a South African musician, almost causing the collapse of his young church. “While we were married, she was also the worship leader in my church and we invited one musician from Cape Town to join in our worship section,” he reminisced. “I didn’t know he was also worshiping my wife away. One day, she called the lawyer and everything I worked for was gone. It was the most difficult period of my life.”
According to him, the persecution he endured at this period was pivotal to his ministry growth later on. “Any pastor that has not passed through persecution has not crossed to the next level. I would sit in my room to cry and the devil would be telling me that I don’t deserve to be a pastor when I can’t even keep a wife.”
“It’s a pity that some people do not realise that pastors go through pain like every other person. People were saying all sorts of things because they didn’t know my story and what I was passing through. People kill others sometimes with words and not knives or guns. Before the breakup of our marriage, our ministry had about 250 members and after that, the number came down to about 90 members. It was shocking but the Bible says that all things work together for good to them that do the will of God.”
Since, Idah has remarried and his church has grown steadily, even starting a television station called ‘Ambassadors TV’ which broadcasts its church services in South Africa.
When asked about his alleged relationship with Prophet T.B. Joshua of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), the one-time Super Eagles media officer under Shaibu Amodu, was unequivocal. “T.B. Joshua is my friend and I don’t care what people think about it,” he said, adding that his years in darkness increased his discernment to know genuine or fake pastors.
“There was an issue I had with a sick woman in my church and while I was praying for her in my closet God spoke to me and said, ‘Go to T.B. Joshua.’ Remember that I’ve served the devil, so I know when I see one. I said, ‘Ah! God, go to that man who I’ve heard terrible things about’ and he said, ‘Yes’.
Upon meeting Joshua, Peterside concluded that most negative perceptions about him were based on ‘hearsay’. “If you ask 90% of people who criticise him, they’ll tell you that they have heard so and so speculations and that is the problem. I want to say that it is a shame to the pastors and bishops who criticize him to allow him continue operating if he’s of the devil. I mean, if he’s operating under the influence of the devil, they should go and deliver him. If Joshua is of the devil then it means the devil has raised a standard and has told the church that satan even does more.”
Describing Joshua as ‘one of the greatest living prophets’, he continued, “It is impossible for any demon to deliver another demon. I know because I have served the devil. If TB Joshua were of the devil, he would not be delivering people. I want to warn all those people gossiping about him – have you met him? What was your encounter with him and so on? People should not forget that the greatest weapon of the devil is rumor and scandal.”
Explaining what convinced him of Joshua’s authenticity despite the myriad of controversies surrounding him, Peterside revealed an interesting encounter. “There was a pastor friend of mine that wanted to meet Joshua in South Africa and I took him to Joshua. While we sat down in his house, T.B. Joshua walked in and pointed at the man, saying, ‘You call yourself a man of God and you are misbehaving with a woman who’s not your wife – is that how a pastor should behave?’ T.B. Joshua refused to pray for the man. He told the man that those of who call ourselves men of God should live holy before God. Now tell me – will a sinner convict a sinner like this? And the man confessed and asked God to forgive him.”

Kwankwaso’s Aide, Others Defect To PDP
A SERVING member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, Bashir Husain, and the Special Assistant to Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Empowerment Programme, Hajia Maryma Kofar Mata, were among the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The development, according to a statement made available by the media office of Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, yesterday, is a fallout of the visit of Sambo to the state.
According to the statement, Husain is representing Gwale Federal Constituency, while Kofar Mata was the immediate past State Women Leader of APC.
It added that Sambo, during the Kano visit, met with several stakeholders, where he urged them to reach out to the people and inform them of the achievements of the President Jonathan-led administration and the laudable programmes of the PDP. The fallout of these stakeholders’ meetings was the defection of the two stalwarts of APC.
The Vice President, while receiving the decampees, welcomed them warmly to the shade provided by the party, stressing that PDP’s umbrella was large enough to accommodate anyone interested in joining the party.
He urged them to feel at home and work assiduously for the victory of the party in the forthcoming elections, so that the party and the administration would continue to move the country forward.
Sambo, who described the PDP as “the party of Nigeria with the most people oriented programmes that has been transforming the socio-economic wellbeing of Nigerians in the right direction,” also added, “PDP is Nigeria, and Nigeria is PDP. If you go to every corner and the remotest part of Nigeria, PDP has a system in place.”
In their response, the decampees said they defected from the APC because the PDP and the administration of President Jonathan and Vice President Sambo, have been delivering more and better dividends of democracy to Nigerians through their Transformation Agenda. They pledged to work tirelessly to move the party and the country to greater heights.
Aliko Dangote To Launch $400 Million Cement Plant In Zambia
A $400 million cement plant in Zambia owned by Dangote Group will be commissioned and commence operations by the end of March, according to a report by the Lusaka Times.
Speaking to a group of Journalists on Thursday at departure at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola, Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man and owner of the Dangote Group, said that the commissioning of the new cement plant which is located in Masaiti district in the Copperbelt, had been delayed as a result of flooding and a delay in getting the requisite permits from the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA).
“Hopefully, we will start production in the next two to three weeks or so and I think we are overcoming that. But the rainy season this year has been very intense which has given us a lesson to protect ourselves next time we are in operations. So by and large, we are pushing and the team will try and deliver the factory by the end of this month, our power is already on so we are making good progress,” Dangote said.
Once operational, the Dangote Cement Plant will have a production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes annually and will create at least 1,000 jobs.
Meanwhile, Dangote is constructing another Cement Plant in Chilanga, a small town 20 km south of Zambia’s capital city, Lusaka. The cement plant in Chilanga will cost an estimated $420 million.
“We have made good progress on the plant in Lusaka, we have already got permission to get into the land and start mining, so hopefully the same contractor might move there and build an identical plant with the one in Masaiti,” Dangote said.
Aliko Dangote has been Africa’s richest man for the past 5 years. His current fortune is estimated at $15.9 billion derived from investments in cement, sugar and flour.

Jonathan Rains Dollars On South-west Obas (each given $250,000 (N50m)) - Punch
The March 28 presidential election has made some traditional rulers in the South-West geopolitical zone millions of naira richer, SUNDAY PUNCH has learnt.
Findings show that this change of fortunes was brought about by President Goodluck Jonathan’s quest for the support of the traditional rulers, and their subjects, for his re-election bid.
Jonathan, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, has virtually relocated to the South-West since the Independent National Electoral Commission postponed the general election. The President has traversed the geopolitical zone holding series of meetings with traditional rulers, groups and individuals.
Analysts have said South-West voters might determine the outcome of the election. As a result, the All Progressives Congress and the PDP are making strenuous efforts to win the votes of the region.
SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that the President and his team doled out various amounts of money in dollars to monarchs during his recent visits to the region. It was, however, gathered that a few of the traditional rulers and chiefs turned down the money.
Competent sources disclosed to our correspondents that a handful of Obas received as high as $250,000 each, while the least paid were traditional rulers of small towns who were given $10,000 each.
Sources say the sum of money given to each traditional ruler was determined by a set of criteria which ranged from status and class — whether first-class, second-class, or mere traditional chief — to the popularity and perceived political clout of the monarch.
The traditional ruler of a prominent South-West ancient city which the President visited is said to have been given $250,000 (N50m) while other traditional chiefs were given $10, 000 (N2.2m).
A prominent Yoruba lawyer, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH in confidence, confirmed each of the paramount rulers received about $250,000 (about N50m). He, however, added that some of the senior Obas were expected to share the largesse with their subordinate Obas and chiefs.
He said, “We learnt that the Yoruba Obas in the highest category got $250,000, a part of which will go to the lower Obas. Ironically, a son of one of the prominent Obas is contesting on the platform of the opposition, APC. Interestingly, when the President visited the palace, the father dressed the son with the same attire as the others.”
On February 21, President Jonathan after inaugurating the Olorunsogo Power Plant 2, at Papalanto in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, held a private meeting with some prominent traditional rulers in the state.
At the meeting were the Akarigbo of Remoland and Chairman of the Ogun State Traditional Council, Oba Michael Sonariwo; Alake and the Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo; Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu; Olu of Itori, Oba Fatai Akamo; Oniro of Iro, Oba Adebari; Olu of Owode-Egba, Oba Kolawole Sowemimo; and other traditional rulers, mostly from the Ogun Central Senatorial District. The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona; and Olu of Ilaro, the paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle were absent.
President Jonathan returned to Ogun State on Thursday and paid a private visit to the Awujale in his palace at Ijebu Ode.
Also three weeks ago, the President was in Oyo State where he visited the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Ajagungbade, separately in their respective palaces.
On March 7, the President visited the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade in Ile-Ife, Osun State to seek the support of the monarch and his colleagues for his re-election.
Apart from the Ooni, the Orangun of Oke-Ile, Oba Adedokun Abolarin; the Owamiran of Esa Oke, Oba Oba Adeyemi Adeniran; the Olufi of Gbongan, Oba Adetoyese Oyeniyi; Alowa of Ilowa, Oba Bukola Ali; the Olojudo of Ido Osun, Oba Adeen Aderemi; and monarchs from the entire Ile-Ife region were at the palace to receive the President.
The President, thereafter, proceeded to Ilesa where he also met with the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, another paramount ruler. Traditional rulers from Ijesaland were also present at the Owa’s palace to receive the President.
In Ekiti State, a similar scenario played out. President Jonathan met Ekiti monarchs when he visited the state for the PDP campaign in January, it was learnt on Friday. About 50 traditional rulers were present at the meeting and the President took time to shake hands with all of them.
A source within the PDP told our correspondent that traditional rulers categorised as ‘mere traditional chiefs’ were given $10,000 each by the President’s aides. The monetary gift, it was gathered, was given to “appreciate the presence of the traditional rulers and solicit their support for the President’s re-election.”
Similarly, a source in the palace of a prominent traditional ruler in one of the South-West states said, “It is true that the President gave out money to the kings. But it was not a huge sum as speculated. Thus, the kings should not be seen as being bought over. Our kings are men of good standing in the public. Their consciences are not for sale and could not have been bought.”
The windfall from the President was not limited to traditional rulers alone as groups and individuals also benefitted hugely from it.
The groups, which included market women, students, professional and ethnic groups, SUNDAY PUNCH learnt, made between $5,000 and $100,000 in Lagos. All the groups that visited Jonathan at the State House, Marina, went home richer. The largesse however caused rancour among some of the groups as members accused their leaders of short-changing them.
A member of a popular Yoruba group that visited Jonathan in Lagos said his group received the sum of $50,000. Pleading anonymity, he said, “We were given $50,000 when we finished meeting the President but to my surprise, our leader gave me only $500. A lot of us are not happy with what he did.”
The Secretary, Board of Trustees, National Council of Traditional Rulers in Nigeria, Oba Adedapo Aderemi, however, told one of our correspondents on the telephone that he knew nothing about the President’s largesse.
Aderemi, who is the Olojudo of Ido Osun in Osun State, said the monarchs did not collect any bribe, neither were they offered.
He said, “I do not know anything about the bribe. The President invited us and we went to meet him. Jonathan is our son just like Buhari is our son. As the number one citizen of the country, Jonathan invited us and we honoured the invitation.
“There is none of us who is hungry. Obas in Nigeria are not hungry as far as I know.”
Similarly, the Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Onitaji of Itaji, Oba Adamo Babalola, said they (kings) did not receive money from Jonathan at any time.
He said, “I’m not aware. Nothing of such happened to my knowledge. If that happened, I was not part of it.”
In the same vein, the Ondo State Council of Traditional Rulers said it did not benefit from Jonathan’s cash gift.
A member of the council, the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi, said the allegation was an effort to drag the traditional council into politics and tarnish its image.
“This kind of rumour should be stopped. We are not politicians and we should not be dragged into this kind of politics.
“You have a duty to stop this kind of rumours and protect the integrity of the traditional institution,” he said.
On his part, Oba Kayode Olisa, Oba Ajowa Akoko, said he was not at the meeting where President Jonathan met with the traditional rulers in the state.
According to him, he had travelled out of the state and was unable to meet the appointment.
Asked if anything was sent to him afterwards, he said, “I am not aware if anything was given; only those who attended will be able to confirm what happened.”
Efforts by SUNDAY PUNCH to get the Presidency’s reaction did not yield any positive result on Saturday, as calls made to the telephone line of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, did not connect.

I Helped Make Jonathan President –tinubu
National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has revealed that he was instrumental to the victory of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2011 general elections.
He said this yesterday during the Ndigbo APC governorship rally held at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos.
His words: “In 2011, I helped Jonathan become President because he made us believe he was a breath of fresh air. I didn’t say because he was from Bayelsa that I would not help him. We voted for him because he promised to make our lives better. But now, he has failed us.”
He called on the Igbo living in Lagos to support the APC to continue reaping the dividends of democracy. He urged them not to allow politics of tribe and religion to influence their decision at the polls.
“Igbo have lived here for years, and nobody has discriminated against them. No one would fight them because they are based in their land. No one can determine the tribe or family where he is born; it is only God that can do that.
Therefore, everyone must be treated with equality and respect. Today, Nigeria is no longer safe. But because election is now approaching, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has remembered you. Can they give Igbo shops in Lagos? Can they give their children scholarships? In Lagos, when we give you shops, we don’t ask you where you come from. We let you do your business. We don’t build roads and say Igbo people should not ply them.
Over 500 Igbo are in the Lagos State civil service and we don’t discriminate when it comes to promotion,” he said.
“The PDP-led administration has ruined the economy and that is why many Igbo businessmen are suffering now. Because of the dollar exchange rate, the rate of imported goods has increased and has crippled many businesses.”
“The country is no longer secure, but with Gen Muhammadu Buhari as president, he would flush out the Boko Haram sect just as he flushed out Maitasine when he was the Head of State. So, I urge every Igbo person living in Lagos to support APC just as the APC government has supported Igbo.”
The governorship candidate of the APC, Akinwumi Ambode, promised to empower Igbo youths and make life more meaningful by creating a better enabling environment for their businesses to thrive.
