PDP To Challenge Election Outcome

The Peoples Democratic Party vowed to challenge the outcome of the presidential election Nigeria.
Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress candidate, was officially announced the winner of the election in the early hours of April 1, Wednesday. The politician beat his major opponent, President Goodluck Jonathan.
Even before the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the results from the last state, GEJ called Buhari on the phone to personally congratulate him and later issued a concession speech.
Many politicians commended Jonathan for the noble gesture describing it as a real token of democracy in the country.
However, according to the latest update, the PDP is to challenge the results, The Punch reports.
It was disclosed through the party agent at the National Collation Centre in Abuja on Wednesday after the INEC final declaration.
Bello Fadile, who was in attendance when parties were being called upon to sign the result sheet, said they were not satisfied with the outcome.
“Whether I sign it (the result sheet) or I don’t sign it, does not make any difference. It doesn’t invalidate the result‎. When we go to court, then we can challenge the result.”
When asked once again if the party would challenge the results, Fadile insisted:
“Sure! The party petitioned. Don’t forget. So the party will follow through the petition. There are rules for this. The law is there.
“The result was declared on the 1st of April, I think. We will follow the due process. Like the president (Jonathan) said, ‘If you have any grievances, follow due process and the due process in this instance is to go to the tribunal.”
It is worth noting that many prominent Nigerians have already congratulated Muhammadu Buhari on the victory. Former vice president Atiku Abubakar called it a historic moment for the democratic Nigeria, while the ex military head of state Ibrahim Babangida described the APC’s win as a deserved one.
