The minister of state II for foreign affairs, the scandalous Musiliu Obanikoro, shared his congratulatory message to the president-elect Muhammadu Buhari on his Facebook page.
He praises both the former military ruler for his victory and the current leader President Jonathan for conceding defeat.
Obanikoro said:” Allow me seize this opportunity to join millions of Nigerians to congratulate the President-Elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the just concluded election. I want to also congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan for creating the enabling environment for free and fair elections, which has led to the transformation and further entrenchment of democracy in our country. I have no doubt that democracy is here to stay in Nigeria.
“Finally, I congratulate all Nigerians for a peaceful and historical election. God bless us all and God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Despite the protests raised by opposition senators against Obanikoro’s confirmation, the Senate led the screening of the former minister of state for defence and shortly after this confirmed him as a minister.
Obanikoro was named recently in a leaked tape as a principal actor in the state’s governorship election rigging in 2014, sparking national outrage. The Nigerian government has declined to investigate the accusations.
