Security has been beefed up at the Lagos state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Security has been beefed up at the Lagos state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
This comes less than a week before Nigeria’s presidential election.
NAN reports that as part of the protective measures, the authorities ordered the deployment of armoured personnel carriers and security staff to the entrance of the commission’s office.
Moreover, some soldiers and mobile police personnel were sent to the area, apparently to enable adequate protection of the electoral officers and materials.
Meanwhile Femi Akinbiyi, the head of public affairs in the state, provided updates on the preparation process. The official said that the INEC had distributed about 3.8 million PVCs to registered voters in Lagos state.
“We have distributed 3,847,491 PVCs in Lagos as at the end of last week. This represent 69 per cent of the total registered voters in the state.”
Akinbiyi lamented, however, that many registered voters had failed to collect their cards. Still, he reinstated their commitment to ensuring democratic elections, come March 28 and April 11.
Meanwhile arguments continue over various issues associated with the polls: over use of card readers, potential violence, deployment of soldiers, possibility of rigging and another elections postponement.
Additionally, the political race between the major opponents, the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress, intensifies.
Five days are left before the major political event in the country. Nigeria is to decide on March 28.
