Imo Youth Declares Support For President Jonathan


Only days before the presidential election is held across Nigeria, the youths of the south-eastern geopolitical zone of the country have announced that they will cast their votes for the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.
The youths made the declaration in Owerri, Imo state on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, during a town hall meeting organised by the Directorate of Youth Mobilisation of the PDP presidential campaign organisation under the leadership of Rt Hon Abdullahi Maibasira.
According to reports, many Nigerian youths from the South-eastern geopolitical zone who attended the event which declared their support for the re-election of President Jonathan for another four years.
While speaking at the occasion, Maibasira, who also doubles as the PDP national youth leader, praised the Igbo nation for its industrious character and hard work.

According to Maibasira, the South-east is the most industrious part of Nigeria, saying that the directorate was in the region to campaign for a man who has done so much for the upliftment of the Nigerian youth and indeed the good people of the south.
The youth leader also reminded those at the occasion that the South-east was without an international airport until the wind of transformation of the President Jonathan-led administration blew to the region.
Maibasira listed several infrastructural projects ongoing and completed under the current administration, including the Onitsha-Owerri road which has drastically reduced the travel time between the two cities.

He urged the youths to come out en-mass to cast their votes for President Jonathan and the party as a whole during the forthcoming polls, describing PDP as unifying factor in the nation’s democratic experience.
‎Also speaking at the event was the deputy speaker of the House Of Representatives of the federal Republic of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, who was moved to tears by the massive show of support for the President.
The deputy speaker assured the youths that the old days of slavery and bondage for the people of Imo state will soon be over.

While lamenting the sorry state of education in Imo state, Ihedioha described the situation where the college of Medicine, the Faculty of law ,department of engineering and all school of Nursing in the state are operating without accreditation and recognition.
The lawmaker also berated incumbent Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, for sending his two sons-in-law, the Secretary to the state Government and thugs to desecrate the most sacred alter in imo state, the Assumta cathedral.

He described the actions of Okorocha’s sons-in-law and the thugs who beat and harassed priests and the team clergymen from Abuja as disgraceful.
In his remarks, the deputy Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Peter Obi, stated that Imo state before Okorocha had always come first in everything educational, not just in the south East but in the whole of Nigeria,
The former governor of Anambra state wondered why the state is suddenly producing one of the worst WAEC and NECO results in the country under Governor Okorocha.
While commenting on the presidential candidate of the APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, Obi described the former Head of State as an analogue politician who does not even know the meaning or application of Facebook.

He reminded the audience of how Buhari locked up the late Odumegwu Ojukwu in Kirikiri maximum prison and till today has not been able to say what his offense was!
Obi went on to describe President Jonathan as a man who loves and respects the Igbo nation as evidenced by the way he treated the Igbo people and Ojukwu, who he describes as the father of the Igbo nation, while he was alive.
“Is it the man who threw your father in jail that you will vote for or the one who took care of your father in life and in death,” Obi asked, as the youths at the occasion responded with chants and solidarity songs in support of President Jonathan.

Meanwhile, other dignitaries who graced the occasion included former Governor of Imo state, the State PDP chairman, Chairman of the committee on Youth Mobilisation, Chief Dennis Alonge-Niyi, the Zonal PDP Youth Leaders, Hon Dagogo Jack‎, Hon Temple Chinedu Chika, Hon I onyekuliusi , ‎several members of PDP Youth Mobilisation Committee amongst others
