The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, has made a shocking confession about his party’s chances of victory going into the much anticipated March 28 election which is just eight days away.
According to Mu’azu, President Jonathan will be re-elected May 28 but his party would not get a landslide victory in the forthcoming general elections.
Mu’azu, a former governor of Bauchi state, made the remark in an unusual statement he signed in Abuja on Thursday to try to shore up the party’s dwindling fortunes and revamp his relationship with the president.
He said: “While I do not see a landslide victory coming, I am convinced that our party will perform creditably in the Southwest and the North of Nigeria and elsewhere in all the elections this year because the evidence is clear that despite our travails at the beginning, we have done very well over the past fifteen years of our nascent democracy since 1999 to record victory.
“Those who disbelieve our resilience will be surprised for victory is ours.”
In a statement by his chief press secretary, Tony Amadi, on Thursday, Mu’azu also promised that Jonathan will declare a Marshall Plan to rebuild the northeast geopolitical zone affected by the war if he is re-elected.
“Our party has this programme on the top of our agenda in the next four years. That will be the right way to wipe away the scars of war among the people of that area”, Mu’azu stated.
According to the national chairman, the PDP will win in the southwest and the north despite “our travails at the beginning”.
He added that after three weeks of town hall meetings, the PDP was creeping its way to victory in the 2015 presidential election.
Mu’azu’s statement that he would rather resign his chairmanship than insult General Muhammadu Buhari , the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, last week, saw the PDP national chairman come under heavy criticism from members and leaders in his party.
However, after it was widely rumored that he had resigned, Mu’azu blamed the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) for spreading lying reports suggesting his resignation.
