GEJ Offers Employment, Scholarships To Ex-corps Members

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, March 2, announced automatic employment for 164 former members of the National Youth Service Corps.
Making the announcement at the Presidential Villa, during the 2014 President’s NYSC Honours Award, Jonathan promised the 164 awardees automatic employment and scholarships for post-graduate studies.
He also launched the NYSC Hope Alive Programme aimed at helping corps members who suffer permanent disabilities during their service.
The 164 awardees were drawn from the 2012, 2013 and 2014 service years for their exceptional performance during their service.
While 55 people were selected from 2012, 52 were picked from 2013 and 57 selected from the 2014 service year.
Jonathan further promised that the awardees who would be employed in the Federal Civil Service were those who had not yet been employed by their state governments.
He also vowed to continue to accord priority to youth empowerment programmes by initiating policies and programmes that would focus on youths.
“A nation that does not build the youth is building a nation for disaster,” Jonathan said.
Reports indicate that the young man, who was in love with a fellow NYSC member, Chioma Okewuru, took his life when the girl came back from her village over the weekend with a ring from a man she had promised to marry.
