Ghali Na’Abba Defects To APC

In less than twelve days to the country’s presidential election, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost another chieftain to the major opposition party, All Progressive Congress (APC).

Premium Times reported on Tuesday that a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, has defected to the APC.
The former speaker who reportedly dumped the PDP on Sunday is currently being received by the National Working Committee and other national leaders of the APC at its national secretariat in Abuja.
The defector revealed that he chose APC because the PDP has refused to change its undemocratic ways of running the affairs of the party.
Mr. Na’abba recalled that he had left the PDP before in 2005 but returned after late President Musa Yar’adua emerged the number citizen in 2007 and promised to change the order of things, but the pledge was not fulfilled.
“I believe the country needs change, particularly at the top. Nigeria has suffered serious misrule in the 16 years of PDP administration. ‎The momentum everywhere now is with the APC and that is why I decided to join the APC in order to help grow the momentum,” he said.
Meanwhile, Punch reports that Na’abba is expected to address a press conference very soon with the national leaders of the APC.
However, defection has become a recurring phenomenon in the political landscape of Nigeria, although parties constitution on defection states that; when a member joins another party, such member is expected to automatically lose the seat he/she won under the party, but so far, this rule has not been applicable, a situation that has caused heated controversy among political captains.

Two days ago in Kano State, Bashir Husain, a serving member of the House of Representatives, and Hajia Maryma Kofar Mata, the special assistant to Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on the Empowerment Programme, also defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Police Arrest Ex-banker, Undergraduates For Kidnapping And Robbery

Thirty-two-year-old Edet Ekuno, an ex-banker, and seven others are currently in the police net for alleged kidnapping, robbery and illegal dealing in arms.

Ekuno, it was learnt, worked with one Hope Okon, an ND 2 Computer Engineering student at a polytechnic in Akwa Ibom; Sunday Samiga, Unagbon Isaiah and other suspects at large, to kidnap unsuspecting well-to-do residents around Lagos and Akwa Ibom states.

PUNCH Metro gathered that a decoy team, led by the officer in charge of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad, ASP Abba Kyari, rounded up the suspects at about 2am on March 7 at D2 Hotel in the Ojodu-Berger area, where they were reportedly perfecting plans to kidnap a businessman in Magodo Estate.

Two locally-made pistols and 18 live cartridges were said to have been recovered from the gang.

A cab driver, who reportedly aided the syndicate with his car, was said to have evaded arrest.

Ekuno, who lives in Ajah, told PUNCH Metro that he joined the group in 2012 to kidnap one of his neighbours working with Chevron. He added that he could not explain what prompted him to the act.

He said, “I was laid off by the bank I used to work for. I am also an estate agent and the music minister in a church. I don’t just know what came over me. The 2012 operation involved a neighbour, but it was not successful. The man shouted for help and we fled with his money and phones. We were five in that operation. I was given N20,000 from the proceeds. Magodo operation was my second attempt.”

In his confession, 27-year-old Okon said he made N800,000 from one of his operations after collecting N5m ransom from the family of a woman they kidnapped. Okon added that he had been in Lagos for about two weeks monitoring their target’s movements.

He said, “In 2010, in Akwa Ibom, we kidnapped a woman whose daughter is a medical doctor. We released her after her family paid N5m. My share was N800,000. I used it to keep poultry, but it later collapsed due to poor management. The cab driver gave us information that the businessman was rich because he rode different types of cars. I was about to go back to Akwa Ibom having exhausted the N50,000 on me when we were arrested. Samiga and Isaiah usually helped us to scare our victims with guns but they don’t kill.”

Apart from the gang, four other suspects ─ Andrew Moukwue, Christopher Edwin, Peter Onyeale and Okpara Reginald ─ were paraded for illegal dealing in arms and robbery.

Our correspondent gathered that three Ak-47 rifles, two baretta and brownie pistols were recovered from them.

Moukwue, the kingpin of the dealers, who was apprehended in Onitsha, Anambra State and transferred to the Lagos command, was said to have led SARS operatives back to his accomplices’ hideouts.

Fifty-year-old Moukwue said he had sold over 100 guns since 2011, adding that he had customers across the country.

He said, “I bought the guns from one Alhaji Amau in Ibadan. I have sold more than 100. I buy one for N350,000 and sell for N400,000. People came from Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Enugu and Lagos states to buy from me.

“I had a store at a market in Onitsha, where I kept the guns. I use the money I realise to train my children. I did not know the business is illegal until I was arrested.”

Edwin, who hails from Omasi in Anambra State, told our correspondent that he had bought 14 guns from Moukwe since he started the business in 2014.

“I was selling beverages before somebody introduced me to this business last year. I resold each of the 14 guns I bought from Moukwue for N430,000. Nomads and businessmen patronised me,” he said.

Reginald, 30-year-old final year Economics student, said he knew Moukwue through his master, who is now late.

The Lagos State Commissioner of police, Kayode Aderanti, said the suspects were apprehended through information provided by members of the public.

Aderanti also said the police would hunt down the bandits who killed three cops and a fish seller while robbing a bank in the Lekki area.

He said, “We will ensure that perpetrators of Lekki robbery are brought to justice. The type of weapons used by these robbers showed that they were well prepared. It requires diligent investigation to fish them out. I promise that such an attack will not happen again.”

Fani-Kayode’s Character Is Genetical

The lawmaker representing Alimosho Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Bisi Yusuf, in this exclusive interview with Naij.com, says the missteps being taken by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, is advantageous to the All Progressives Congress as the election draws close.
He also describes Femi Fani-Kayode, the spokesman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation as one whose behaviour is genetic.
INTERVIEW HIGHLIGHTS:
* If they do not toy with the election, if they do not toy with the will of the people, there is no way they can be victorious in the election slated for March 28. With every of their steps, you would see that they are not prepared for the election.
* What they don’t even now is; if you kill the people, who would you govern if you win by chance? If election is conducted today by the grace of God, people are ready.
* The only way we can survive is to fight corruption because if you fight corruption, electricity problems would be resolved and it would boost the economy. So if Jonathan is saying hr does not want the use of card readers, then you can conveniently say Jonathan is the grandfather of corruption.
* Femi Fani-Kayode’s issue is genetic. I won’t say more than that, but if I say it is genetic, I know he (Femi-Kayode) would understand what I mean.
* Also out of desperation, they have started committing one atrocity or the other and people are seeing it. One of their agents, instead of doing everything to convince the people on why they should vote for his candidate, he had been wishing Muhammadu Buhari death.
Fani-Kayode’s Character Is Genetical
Bisi Yusuf
Are you confident that the elections would hold considering the fact that the PDP is kicking against the use of the Permanent Voters Cards during the elections?
That is it. You don’t need any equipment to read that the PDP is not sincere with what they think about the elections. And I must confess it is the reason we are seriously preparing. If they do not toy with the election, if they do not toy with the will of the people, there is no way they can be victorious in the election slated for March 28. With every of their steps, you would see that they are not prepared for the election. They are therefore seeking every means to force their stay in power even when the people have not enjoyed the dividends of democracy. But we can tell you that they will never dear scuttle this election.
Days ago, President Goodluck Jonathan confessed that he never had any phone contact with King Mohammed of Morocco. What implication would this have on our country?
The revelation is pathetic. It shows how shameless we are and when I say we, I mean the presidency as representative of the country. Those in the presidency are really clueless and lack confidence in themselves. They have lost touch and their bearing and do not know what to do next. Having surrounded himself with brainless people, none of President Goodluck Jonathan’s appointee could advise him. The only thing Nigerians can do now I to send them out of power because they have carried their ineffectiveness out of the shores of Nigeria. They demonstrated this in London, and then moved to Morocco. Gradually, you would begin to hear about it in neighbouring countries and environs including Cotonou. Definitely, they do not know what is best to do.
There is this letter in circulation allegedly written sent by the presidency to the EFCC for the prosecution of some APC chieftains. But the PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, has accused the APC of forging the letter…
That’s what they normally do. When their secrets leak, they would accuse the APC. I can tell you they are the ones that did it and what does it suggest to us? It means they are already packing their load. To God, if anybody is to be investigated, the first person is President Jonathan. The former Governor of Central Bank, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, alleged that the sum of $20 billion was missing, another former Central Bank Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, came and said: “Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, I know you know the exact figure, but you don’t want to state it. Over N30 trillion is missing.” Not only that, was it Bola Tinubu who sent a private jet loaded with dollars to South Africa? They are the ones. If anyone is to be investigated, it should be the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. They don’t even need any letter to the EFCC before we know what they are planning to do. Let them even arrest these people they have listed and see if we won’t still win. They should go ahead and put them in prison today, we will win the elections and get them released. We have millions of Bola Tinubu, of Atiku, of Buhari all around. These are the people who these leaders have trained. How many of them would the government arrest? No matter how strong they are, they cannot kill the will of the people.  We are waiting for them. Let them try it.
Let us know what you think about the election as a candidate for the Alimosho constituency.
Alimosho is a concentration of different tribes in Nigeria and whatever opinion you gather there is a reflection of what can happen in the larger society. I have gone round and must say people want continuity in Lagos State and change at the federal level. People are ready to identify with us. We have also based our campaigns on issues. The PDP is now seriously fidgeting, pursuing their own shadows. Instead of focusing on the election, they have resorted to name-calling, abuse and character assassination and even the use of guns to attack. You can kill the moral of the people with guns again because people are now determined.  What they don’t even now is; if you kill the people, who would you govern if you win by chance? If election is conducted today by the grace of God, people are ready. But they have seen the zeal of the people. They then decided to postpone the election. They can only run, but the end for them is just approaching. It is just a few days from now. We must all face reality. Actually, the postponement was done to demoralise us. Moreover, they have enough money at their disposal to throw around. And they know we have won the length and breadth of Nigeria. So they think they can buy people.
Also out of desperation, they have started committing one atrocity or the other and people are seeing it. One of their agents, instead of doing everything to convince the people on why they should vote for his candidate, he had been wishing Muhammadu Buhari death. He has even assumed the position of God saying Buhari would not govern this country as if he is the Supreme Being; somebody who cannot determine what can happen to him in two minutes is saying what would happen to another person. This amounts to shallowness of the brain. If Jonathan was serious, he should have cautioned this man. Elections are held all over the world, but I have not seen where candidates are wished death. If Olusegun Obasanjo could tear his membership card, you know what that means. Nemesis is seriously catching up with the PDP and I pray more people leave the party. The other time, they thought I was inside my car and they rained the car with bullets. For what? What would they gain? Our voters cards are our guns and we would use them during the elections.
You recently called President Jonathan Mr. Contradiction. Why sir?
The reason is this. Jonathan said he was going to fight corruption using technology and that he would he would not want to jail people like Buhari. There is a lot of electoral malpractices in the country and in its own wisdom, INEC has come up with a product that would get rid of electoral malpractices and you are saying you do not want INEC to use it yet you want to use technology to fight corruption. That is how you should know that Jonathan is never ready for the fight against corruption. The only way we can survive is to fight corruption because if you fight corruption, electricity problems would be resolved and it would boost the economy. So if Jonathan is saying hr does not want the use of card readers, then you can conveniently say Jonathan is the grandfather of corruption.
How would you describe Femi Fani-Kayode’s constant attack on your party and presidential candidate?
That one? History will judge. His issue is genetic. I won’t say more than that, but if I say it is genetic, I know he (Femi-Kayode) would understand what I mean. For those of people who understand what I am saying, they won’t blame Fani-Kayode; he is not a bastard.

The Fear Of One Man Is The Cause Of PDP’s Panic – Momodu

Chief Dele Momodu, one of Nigeria’s top motivational speakers has expressed his concerns about the drama evolving in the camp of the ruling party, The Peoples Democratic Party as Nigerians get set to head to the polls.
According to the CEO and publisher of Ovation International magazine, the APC candidate, General Buhari confidence is remarkably high going into the elections unlike his number one counterpart and the incumbent president of the country, Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP.
The business tycoon, who earlier revealed that his decision to vote General Buhari in the coming election is as a result of his dissatisfaction with the Jonathan’s administration, said that president and his handlers are making their panic too obvious and this is going to dampen the spirits of their supporters.
Chief Momodu took to his twitter handle today, March 17, to make this known.
According to him, the fear of one man “Buhari” has caused a huge panic in the camp of the ruling party (PDP).

He said: “Good Day Africa! The hullabaloo about elections in Nigeria is all about desperation but those who wish to win by force should cool temper.
“The fear of one man BUHARI is the cause of this conundrum whereby PDP is willing to dismantle INEC in order to cause confusion!
“If PDP has truly performed and Jonathan is being endorsed by most Nigerians, why the paranoia being displayed about these elections
“The President and his handlers are making their panic too obvious and that is going to dampen the spirits of their supporters!
“Seriously, BUHARI’s confidence level is remarkable; the People’s General has remained calm while his opponents are going haywire”.

Giving a word of advice to President Jonathan, Dele Momodu said: “The President should ignore the warmongers & do the needful by conducting free & fair elections & if he wins ok or fails, home sweet home”.

He concluded: “Just imagine, if GEJ had ignored the hawks & stopped some of PDP stars like ATIKU, SARAKI, KWANKWASO, WAMAKO, AMAECHI, AHMED from going…”

Dele Momodu who recently wrote about the unbecoming statements credited to Nigeria’s First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, expressed concern that if things go on like this, Mama Peace would soon turn into ‘Mama War’.

PDP Condemns APC For Raising False Alarms

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has engaged in raising false alarms in a dangerous mind games capable of pushing the country to chaos.
The national publicity secretary of the PDP,Olisa Metuh, released a statement in Abuja, on Monday in which he noted that APC resorted to the practice because it was now confronted with the reality of failure in the coming election Nigerian Tribune reports.
PDP Condemns APC For Raising False Alarms
Chief Olisa-Metuh, National Secretary PDP
The statement said: “having been exposed in its hypocrisy, lies and empty promises, the APC in obvious frustration is now engaged in dangerous mind game using wild allegations in a bid to cause panic in the country.
“For the APC, it has become a matter of ‘if we can’t have it, then let’s destroy it’. In the last couple of weeks, this opposition party and its leaders have engaged in dishing out dangerous false alarms in a bid to discredit the electoral process, heighten tension, create fear in the minds of the people and push the polity to the brinks.
“For instance, how else would one explain the false alarm by the leader of the opposition, Bola Tinubu on Thursday, March 12, alleging that there were plots to assassinate him, a phantom claim which was followed on Sunday, March 15 by the APC, in a statement that there were plans to kill their presidential standard bearer, General Muhammadu Buhari.”
The PDP recalled that on the same March 15, the APC falsely claimed that the Federal Government paid N9 billion to ethnic militias to foment trouble, before, during and after the general election.
It said this was immediately followed by a release on Monday, March 16, in which the opposition, in their unrelenting effort, according to the statement to further discredit the process, alleged that the Federal Government has hired an Israeli expert, Gyora Berger, to sabotage card readers on election day.
The PDP added: “In the same vein, on March 4, 2015, the APC released a false alarm, claiming that there were plots by the Federal Government to frame its leaders and sensitive INEC officials and manipulate the electoral process. This is in addition to another statement on March 9, in which it alleged of plots to harass its financiers and cripple its operations ahead of elections.
“We are aware that the APC has lined up many of such false allegations and nuisance alarms, which would be methodologically released to the public to swell the tension as the elections draw nearer.
“APC’s history of lies has become legendary. Nigerians may recall that this party in their penchant for deceit had in June 2014 alleged that a plane carrying Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, to attend a rally in Ekiti State to support Governor Kayode Fayemi’s re-election bid was denied landing permission in Akure, only for Kwankwaso’s Director of Press Affairs, Baba Dantiye to announce that his boss was at another event in Kano and had no plans to travel to Ekiti State.
“It is, indeed, clear that the APC has no positive agenda for Nigeria but on a mission to grab power at all cost, failing which it has perfected plots to unleash mayhem and destabilise the nation.”
